I opened a new case of Vitasoy organic original today and began steaming with it and IT SUCKED. I have been using the same product since we opened and have gopne through dozens of cases of the stuff and the new packaging MUST include a new recipe and I'm guessing it's lower fat because of how it behaves under steam. It's like almond milk now.

Do you have a recommendation for a replacement for Vitasoy that's available in Canada and that steams up nicely for everything from soy Macchiatos to Soy Chai?

Lemme know!

I swear by Pacific. It also seems to build the best actual foam.
I tried some Pacific Soy today and it steamed to a wonderfully creamy texture. However, as far as taste goes, I feel that it still took away from the flavor of our espresso... the nuttiness of the soy was still pretty apparent. I'm just assuming that one can only get away from that soy flavor so much, but does anyone have any suggestions for the least soy-tasting soy milk?
The least soy tasting soy? Silk soy definately.

We use Silk Soymilk Organic Vanilla. It steams nice. We just don't let it get too hot. Stretch the milk very quickly and roll the milk sooner than regular milk.
Pacific Soy is the bomb AND they have supported the Barista community through sponsorships and donations at regional BGA jams and SCAA competitions.

steams great, tastes great. shelf stable.
Got the PacSoy this afternoon...Looks like I'll be taking the remaining 5.5 cases of Vitasoy home...Unless anybody wants a deal on them!
Thanks for all the input and ideas and recommendations.

The only thing supporting baristas more than Pac Soy? BX members, baby!
Good choice Stickman Good choice

use the soy your taking home for oatmeal ;-)
interesting - we were considering a switch to VitaSoy because our Restaurant Depot started carrying it. We bought some two weeks ago - steamed and tasted much better than the Silk we've been using for four years. But we hadn't yet switched over, so this is good to know and timely.
Not a big fan of Silk. We ended up going with different soys: Organic Valley in the half-gallon for iced drinks, either EdenSoy or WestSoy Organic Original for steaming. Both the organic Eden and West only have two ingredients: soy and water. Eden steams and tastes a touch better, but both can be textured quite nicely and I've poured as good of art with either as I have with regular milk. We often have soy customers ask if we used cow milk by mistake because the drinks taste better than the ones make with Silk down the street.
We just did a taste test and froth test between silk, kikkoman (new product), and pacific.

The winner: PACIFIC (unanimous)

Second was kikkoman (a good product also), then silk.
I personally dig this one. There is enough fat content in there to make nice microfoam (with practice, of course) and it heats up nicely without, as advertised, "that beany taste". Pretty decent stuff, really.
