Profile

What is your position in the coffee industry?
coffee enthusiast, industry professional, consultant, supplier
Where are you located? ( City and Country )
San Francisco
How many years have you been in the industry?
14 years full-time; 18 years total, including part-time barista work
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills and what you can offer in regards to an exchange.
I'm not a direct fit for a barista exchange as a green coffee importer/consultant, but I still keep up in the barista community as much as I can. I started as a barista in 1989, served on the SCAA Training Committee Espresso subcommittee for a number of years, and judge in barista competitions when possible.

I'm also president of the international women's coffee alliance and would love to encourage, support, and connect with women in the barista community in particular.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
All over
About Me:
I love this industry like most of us in it and I donate a lot of time to it outside of my job requirements. In my other life, I'm a stage actor, performing and producing with my non-profit Theatre Company, Triple Shot Productions, in San Francisco, California.
About My Company:
VOLCAFE Specialty Coffee is an importing co., specializing in high-end specialty coffees from around the world. We sell to roasters in the US and abroad.

The International Women's Coffee Alliance is a non-profit organization with the mission to "empower women in the international coffee community to achieve meaningful and sustainable lives and to encourage and recognize the participation of women in all aspects of the coffee community".
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
The people. It's an industry of very passionate people and I do everything I do with passion.

Hey Andi-Smandi. I read your note to Imbibe from February. Are they having a write up on El Salvador? If so, I have some comprimising photos of you from our trip there to send them. You will owe me lots of beer to keep that under wraps! See ya in Minny.

Hi Andi! How's it going? Have you ever encountered a coffee that has such a superb aroma in wholebean form, but then once you grind it, there's barely any left. It seems counterintuitive and contrary to my experience. The coffee in question is Rwanda Bufcafe Bourbon Gikongoro. Thoughts?

Andi,
Good to meet you at the WRBC. Keepin' it positive in the front row. Hope my 'applause' sign didn't distract you from judging.

So good to hear from you Andi!
I'm just finishing up a thesis on gender in fairer trade systems, concentrating on the case study of Cafe Femenino...
it's been an incredible and inspiring experience, and i'm really looking forward to continuing to work in this area!
It would be wonderful to talk with you sometime! Any chance you'll be at the SCAA in May?
