2010 is just around the corner. With the economy still shaky, what have you learned from this past year to improve your business? and What are your business goals for next year?

When people are ordering in, use house mugs or cups instead of paper. Switching our grinders to Mazzer Mini Eletronic which have portion control for pulling shots and little things like... stopping the girsls who work at the bar down the street from using our conidment stand as a grocery store. One of the staff recently found these very cute mini paper cups... customers quite often order espresso shots to go, no point to using a 12 oz paper cup... half the shot end up on the wall of the cup... with these little cups the customer gets a better shot and we save money.

By small ... you mean the hopper..., yes it's very small ... we had a number of large hoppers left over from dead grinders... they fit... it's in a shop that pulls maybe 300 shots a day... no problems at all... we have a Robur in another location... doing about the same amount of work.

FYI we are in the Cayman Islands so in the summer we do a large amount of smoothies and frappes. If anything I need larger ice machines... can't keep up... but don't have the room for either larger or second machines.

My business goals include cutting costs, especially related to the baked goods we sell, and to grow revenue. Specifically: 1) We intend to invest in kitchen equipment so that we can bake some of our baked goods ourselves. 2) We plan to get a wine and beer license to attract more customers on live entertainment nights (slow Friday and Saturday nights). We do not intend to lose our main focus: coffee. 3) We plan to add internet sales as a way to increase our revenue avenues 4) We will continue to educate our customer by featuring cupping events. 5) Along with our roaster, we plan to take part in latte art throw downs as a way to encourage our baristas and to entertain our customers. 6) Continue to read and learn what has worked for other shops and what has flopped. I am always looking for feedback, so if you have any input on my business plan, I am glad to hear it.
