I get the feeling that many who really have an opinion or have competed in the last few years don't want to rock the boat. The Aurelia was a big up grade for the Millrock. The steam control switch was fine with the latte art tip on the wand..,but with a regular tip? I don't know. The wait for the milk to get to a good temp was a bit long... really long. But the milk turned out good. I would not want that wait in a cafe setting. There are other tips for the wands. I must say the case on the Aurelia looks like a grade school calculator,as do it's buttons. The knob on the Adonis had a big gap in the response and felt like a chromed piece of plastic and to slick for really use. Great that has a big boiler but the water in the boiler of any espresso machine is no good for tea or americanos. If we go to Stumptown, Intelli.La, Albina Press, Ritual, Barefoot,Gimme'... the list goes on and on. They don't use LM, Kees, or Synesso because WBC has. But because they look great and work amazing!!! La Marzocco will be missed at competions. But not in the shops we love. And you sure didn't see 4 of anything else at Slow Food Nation..?
i used an adonis at the nuova booth at CF, and it was pretty cool. the left steam wand button activation thing was kind of weird, but certainly something you can get used to. it's hard to really judge the ergonomics because the drip tray was at about chest height due to the table it was on. but i poured some decent shots and art.

i'm not really in a position to determine whether or not it's a good value vis a vis cyncra or gb5, though.
Hey Mike, Stumptown has been selling the Aurelia machine to their wholesale accounts for over a year now. :)

La Marzocco's are also great machines and I totally understand that it will be a big change, but it is important for people to keep an open mind, and be able to adapt. There were only three machines that passed the very comprehensive tests to be eligible for sponsorship.

There will be small things that will take getting used to for sure, the steam levers, steam pressure, etc. but the good thing is, Nuova Simonelli is very interested in working with competitors to make the transition as easy as possible, and are very eager to hear feedback.

Thanks for the thoughts, I think this is an important thread for sure.

wonder if we will see some new mods or tweaks in the Aurelia...?
I met and had a great visit with one of the nice people from Nuova and he was great as well the rep who responds here on BX has been very cool. They have much to gain as a sponsor and it costs them to be a sponsor of any event. Their machine is functional and temp. stable...good but not easily adjustable. And as andy has said maybe there will be sum cool mods. Exterior design needs work and the WBC for me and maybe for others the place of innovation and stretching of what is possible.
I was thinking it was going to be Lavazza. The pod brewer, and Mr. Coffee for the grinder. Guess I was wrong. Maybe next year. ;-)
Nice!

The community can certainly help itself out by continuing to provide useful feedback here. If the guys at Nuova are interested in making a great machine, then our feedback will have results. I don't think they would be here if this was not the case.

Nuova, it's on your shoulders now...
I am even more excite that they bought the grinder company that was making part of the Mythos and the MDLA grinders. Now they control the whole wax ball. Good stuff should be coming on the grinder front.
We use a three group Aurelia at the shop; there's a lot that's outside of the manufacturers hands that wouldn't be useful to go into, but it lacks any form of lighting in the drip tray area. This seems like a small thing, but it makes monitoring shots at night a pain. I'm looking into installing and LED light strip there to fill in.
ill have mythos from nuova simonelli in few weeks so ill write you all more about. as for lights, new machine from nuova simonelli has lights just below group heads, look a like lm, not that much light but anyway, looks ok. they said in copenhagen that they were first with led lights oposite to lm halogen in tokyo, never mind, its nice to work with lights on your machine, im so happy that my gb5 is with them and its so much more fun to work, also teflon covered portafilters and steam wands, everything that helps barista in work is welcome from any firm, good for simonelli as new wbc sponsor, new stuff to learn for all of us
anyone who has played with the NS victoria Arduino Adonis machine will have noticed controllable led lighting for their shots and as slightly newer machine I'm assuming that this is the kind of progression the WBC mc will have. Also anyone worried about the appearance check out the Adonis - if they can make machines this beautiful I have high hopes!!!!
though those LM's in copenhagen were so gorgeous - my wife even said she'd let me have one in the house!!!!
