Profile

What is your position in the coffee industry?
barista, manager
Where are you located? ( City and Country )
San Jose, Ca
How many years have you been in the industry?
Almost Two
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills and what you can offer in regards to an exchange.
After WRBC 2008, I have to say "Carrying grinders, freaking out competitors with little to no warning, and cleaning competition machines really freaking fast."

I love making coffee, and I am eager to try making it in weird places. A beach-side ice cream truck espresso stand sounds right up my alley. I'm down for making coffee for a good cause, or a fund raiser, or for free.

I'm also a huge geek and animal lover, so I'm used to nasty smells. (They're not real skills, but they're up for trade!)
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
If I could break the language barrier, then the origin countries. All of them. I hear there's lots of Asians in this crazy industry, so I'd love to visit them, too. I'd love to go to Seattle for the immersion of coffee culture, and Copenhagen because hey, that's where champion espresso is made. I like surprises, too so... Canada? Australia? Philippines?
About Me:
I'm Barefoot's COFFEE COURTESAN. In a nutshell, that makes me an advocate for our most honored of guests, The Coffee. I speak on behalf of the bean.

I AM NOT A GEEK.*

*OK, that was a total lie. I love wearing my retainer and jamming out to ROCK BAND, tempting friends with the idea of hosting a FrakParty, and downloading fonts. I also love my girlfriend, but you'd have to know her to understand that.
About My Company:
Clean palettes. Dirty Minds.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
The people. They're flipping wild.

My favorite team!

"ba-RACE-ta" isn't supposed to be the title, but i'm hard-pressed to find a better one

I kind of figured at some point I would sit down and write about my life. Invariably, the as-yet unwritten memoir wouldn't just be a coming of age story (lasting two or three or more decades), but it would showcase my not quite assimilation into North American Caucasoid life. What this has to do with espresso or making coffee isn't entirely clear or direct, but I'm a barista; we'll start from there and hope it gets more relevant. About a month ago a friend of mine caught me looking at Nick Cho'… Continue

Sick Day

Sick days are amazing blessings in disguise. I don't even remember the last time I drank coffee and savored the taste without feeling I had to find some nuances in the cup. I have heard that smell is the strongest sense tied to memory; I should have known that gustation would come a close second. A lot of Central and South American coffees taste like a savory broth to me. When I get to them they are more than lukewarm, but not quite hot--a lot like the broth brought to me in bed by my mom or dad… Continue

Oh respite.

It's getting harder to find time for myself. At a time in my life when I want to meet everyone and do everything, it's increasingly hard to be anywhere and not run into someone I know. It's a good thing to know people professionally who eventually become your friends, but when your friends are also your co-workers, well things can get sticky. It's not trouble nor insurmountable, but it's definitely hard to avoid business when seeking pleasure. My current search is for the fabled "Third Place."… Continue

Good to the Last Name Drop

110 miles in the span of 90 minutes and I'm thinking, "I got to be on the road less."

These deliveries, these in-person "How do you do's?" are fantastic, but they begin to wear and some point. It's subtle, you know, like when you realize the music in the background's stopped playing, or when you see a dent in your car and wonder "has that always been there?" My buns kiss cushion a whole hell of a lot--by the way, this isn't a complaint. I'm just saying I drive a lot so you understand t… Continue

hey Chris,
Stringball has aspirations for purely altruistic endeavors in the future. Right now, it's not on the agenda (need to work on some other stuff first).
Thanks for the vote of confidence!

I'm hoping, but I'm helping with some behind the scenes business that day, I would imagine. But I will be wearing a funny hat.

One of your homegirls came in the other day...she called out my espressoparts shirt. I asked her how she knew what that was and she dropped your name. Sadly I didn't get her name.
