Hey Guys,

Has anyone had a chance to play with Kees Van Der Westen's Mirage Idrocompresso? I'm looking into one for our shop... anyone have anything interesting to say about it? Or how much I'm looking to pay?

Kees makes a great machine. We've got a Mirage Bastone at our cafe. I can't speak to the lever action but ours makes great coffee and the fit and finish on the machine itself is out of this world. No one comes close. The machines are easy to work on, too. I think 49th Parallel is a distributor up there. If you don't want to buy from a competitor Visions Espresso Service in Seattle can get them too.
One thing I'll say about the price is that you can pay more for a La Marzocco or a top of the line Faema. So if you are looking at that level of machine anyway then the Mirage is a great way to go. I really don't think the price is as crazy as what you might think looking at it from the outside. You'll be able to keep your kidney and some of your farm. ;-)
Drool, and pay a LOT!
I'm playing with one at work atm and it's a great machine, really. Here are two pictures taken on a quiet workday. Espressofabriek in Amsterdam.

I should receive my new Speedster this week. I shopped two authorized distributors for my Speedster but both were much higher that I actually paid from the newest distributor. I would suggest if anyone is interested in a Mirage or a Speedster that they contact www.coffeeshopsolutions.com. The owner is Nasi Kajani and he is extremely helpful, kind and willing to work out a fair and reasonable Kees Van Der Westen package.

If I had another foot of space in my kitchen I would have purchased a Mirage. The new Kees "Snirit" machine received rave reviews at Cafe Culture in London last month.
