We're listening to Mark Stewart's new release, Edit, along with the new Nick Cave, and the Black Angels right now...
cant believe no one has yet mentioned:

Pedro the Lion- anything by him, really
Rocky Votolato- anything
Phoenix- Its Never Been Like That
Coconut Records- Nighttiming
Sondre Lerche- Phantom Punch (its a good night time/busy album)
Faces Down (good chill music)
Nat King Cole- all of it

Bright Eyes- oh, man
Coldplay- the new album is soooo good to me
The Honorary Title- both of their full lengths
John Vanderslice- Emerald City
Emily Loizeau, L'Autre Bout de Monde. You can get this CD from I Tunes. Always good to add a little French to the mix
Emilie Simon is pretty good, too.
I might be beating this into the ground now but...
Hard to believe no one has mentioned elliot smith yet
Josh Rouse
Josh Radlin
Alexi Murdoch
Some Ryan Adams is okay every now and again, easy to get tired of though
Damien Rice
Luke Temple
Peter Krebs
Iron & Wine

The shop I work at plays Sirius's coffeehouse station- decent, but it beats things into the ground. nice to spice things up once in a while(like when the owners are out of town... ;) )
Jason Collett-Here's to Being Here.
Broken Social Scene-Feel Good Lost
Modest Mouse-the moon & antarctica
Josh Ridder-The Historical Conquests of Josh Ridder
Anything by Neil Young, David Bowie, The Beatles
and the Coffee and Cigarettes soundtrack
Doolittle - The Pixies
Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins
The Juno Soundtrack - Various
Thunder, Lightning, Strike - The Go! Team
The Cure's Greatest Hits - The Cure.

Awesome, awesome albums. We play them at work, but we do work in a kiosk in a train station...maybe not the best for a coffee shop lol
Nina Simone - Live in Paris
The Rolling Stones - Beggar's Banquet
Paul Simon - Graceland
hummm, very nice

well, some "bossa nova" would be nice:
Tom jobim - "Eu sei que vou te amar" or "wave"

and maybe some Pink Floyd - "wish you were here", or "the great gig in the sky"...

I did a poll in the CoffeeClub, in the community Coffee & Music. If you have time, take a look!

Best,

Paulo

Ok, ok, ok... I've made it through about 5 pages of this thread and barely seen any hip-hop!!! Or Spanish/Latin sounds!!! Nothiin' but some emo mess!!! The shout out to Sera Cahoone is Awesome! She's a pleasure to work with and an amazing artist!!! Now, as far as i'm concerned here's my current top ten that I've had playin' in the shop.

Gloria Estefan - Mi Tierra - I know, but it's the only worth while album she ever produced, none of the cross over crap! Strait-up latin musicians at their best!

Nas - Illmatic

Outkast - ATLiens

John Legend - Get lifted

Santana - Abraxas

Al Green - Greatest Hits

Agustine Lara - Anything!

Spanish Harlem Orchestra

Buena Vista Social Club - Anything!

The Soundtrack to A Bronx Tale
The Clash? Punk is dead. How about DIO- Holy Diver. There's nothing like a whole shop full of people chuckling under their breath and sharing significant glances while still appreciating the raw awesomeness of Ronny James Dio. Playing ironic/funny music can give your customers something to joke about and connect over, making the shop vibe more familial. Plus, Dio's just awesome.
