Yes, that's right. Microprocessors; you don't know what they are, I don't know what they are." ....um, ooops.

Barista Jams.
Yes, those. I've never been to one, you've never been to one. (probably...definitely wrong). Anyway, let's change that. Tim's mentioned it before. I'm sure others have too.

So, may I present to you the OFFICIAL Philly Barista JAM, Spam, and COFFEE CRAM event THREAD!

we're a happy family, i vote for july 4th! Spirit of '76!
Woah, there. I love the jam, but we need to get a few things nailed down, first. A venue? anybody got a venue we could rock after hours? I vote for Milkboy in Ardmore, but we could also do a meet-up style jam at a bar like Johnny Brenda's or Sugarmom's. Note: this type of jam doesn't lend itself to latte art smackdowns, 'spro-downs, or learning of any sort, and we can't have free booze at a bar. all the same, we could do it this weekend, theoretically.
Phil, do you have any accounts that might want to offer up some space this summer?
I'll offer my house sometime, but it'll limit things as well. Plus your asses better be potluckin'.
I spoke with my manager the other day, he suggested asking the milkboy crew. Latte art smackdowns are totally needed. I've got so many hulk hogan tear-off shirts! Beer and potluck needz ta be. Learning also works out...usually.
"he suggested asking the milkboy crew." Hahahaha... Yeah, that's probably the Milkboy response, too. We'll find a place. If you tamp it, they will come.
(faintly muttered by a jerk in the background somewhere): ...that's what she said...
Touche, Biando.
Yo
C'mon, where's the Stallion? Dr. J? Jaws? The Tugger? Schmitty? Frank Rizzo? and a photo of the world famouse cheesesteak!
so, despite my complete lack of planning, I'd like to get this going. Does anyone want to meet up and/or plan this with me?
OK, so this has really fallen by the wayside. I know there interest, but there is also resistance. There are a fair amount of talented Baristas in the area, and I don't think that the locals are even aware themselves how much knowledge and experience is around. I think quite honestly that a good number of people who would want to attend this kind of thing don't lurk around BX, and especially this corner of it.

This thing will require actual foot work that can't be accomplished on the internet. We need to define the goal, outline the tasks needed to get there, and split the duties. We need to decide on the basics:

-Format
-Activities
-Supplies
-Human resources
-Expences

I propose a preliminary planning meeting where ideas can get fleshed out, duties can be delegated. I think I can get interest roused enough to get Baristas in from Easton, Emmaus, Lancaster, Philly, Baltimore, NYC, and the Main Line to attend this thing if we put on the right kind of show. If the event is promoted properly and promises the right kind of festivities we can pull this off, but not without busting our asses. I will send messages and or emails to everyone whom I think has something to offer in the area of planning and execution and invite to a planning meeting. Message me if you have ideas for a location or whatever.
SO, I just got back from the left coast. And being out of school, I have a lot of time on my hands. I am totally willing to get together with any and all to do some initial planning together/figure-anything-out. And I suggest sooner than later. Perhaps, even this week. Does anyone want to meet up over at Johnny Brenda's (tim?) or somewhere- an apartment or house for those non-21-er's who might want in?
keep the fire burning,
cb
Well, you know I'm in. I'm a bit busier than usual with build-out finally underway on Town Hall Coffee, and a child on the way Sept. 4, but isn't life just a long string of annoying commitments ending in your kicking off?
...
I'm available this week on Monday and Tuesday, and then all next week.
Phil, are you available to drive in? We could me in the city, like sugarmom's or another low-key place.
Or maybe Mugshots, or someplace like that?
i vote a "no confidence" vote on mugshots...boo yah! Monday or Tuesday are fine with me.
