Greetings Everyone...

I'm opening a shop in about 2 months...and...

well I'm a drip coffee lover and not really into all the other stuff...

although I love a good espresso... anyway...

I would really like to focus on drip coffee meaning having a lot of choices

in the coffee and the brewers (french press etc...) to offer my customers.

However, do coffee shops typically get more customers that buy espresso based drinks rather than just coffee?  If so then I think I might need to change direction.

Love some advise please!

Thank you.

Our family's shop is about 60% specialty drinks and 40% drip.  We are in a small northern Michigan community, so your demographic/mix most likely will be different.  You could do some research on what the mixes are at the other shops in town?

I agree with Adam, look to see what is offered in your area. During colder weather I'd say our average breakdown is 50% espresso based drinks, 25% drip coffee and the remaining 25% comprised of chai tea, hot chocolate and hot tea. Should also add that we are mobile and our location dictates what people are familiar with.

I will finish by saying I wouldn't open a coffeeshop of any type without offering espresso based drinks.

it's amazing to me that people constantly come onto this forum and say "i'm opening a shop in (insert short amount of time here)" and then ask a simple business question. YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS STUFF if you're opening in a scant two months.

when a person is unclear on their business plan yet is forging ahead to open in two months anyways, the first thing i think is "there's a business that won't exist in a year."
