Top Ten Ways to Maintain or Boost Immune System

1. Deep Sleep is one of the most important ways to boost the immune system. Chronic insomnia can lead to immune system deficiency or poor immune response.

2. Moderate exercise, at least 3 times a week. Excessive and prolonged physical activity temporarily reduces the function of the immune system. Avoid excessive sun exposure.

3. Reduce stress any way you know how. Stress releases the hormone cortisol which wreaks havoc with the immune system. Stress of any kind -- emotional, physical, psychological -- quickly damages the immune system.

4. Eat more fruits and vegetables. They have flavonoids that have anti-bacterial and anti-viral activity. Avoid excessive sugar intake. Consume more garlic, onions, and culinary herbs.

5. Ingest healthy probiotic bacteria. These friendly gut bacteria may boost the immune system.

6. Reduce or eliminate smoking. Keep alcohol consumption low or moderate.

7. Drink more tea to fight off bacterial infections. As an explanation for tea's benefits, experiments in the lab revealed that an ingredient found in black, green, oolong and pekoe teas boosted the ability of immune system cells to attack a bacterial invader. The experiments used ethylamine, which is produced when the tea ingredient L-theanine is broken down in the liver.

8. Get a massage. Massage therapy reduces cortisol levels.

9. Pray, meditate, listen to music, or find a way to still your mind.

10. Do yoga, or relaxed breathing and stretching, at least once or twice a week.

Engaging in sexual intercourse always seems to give me a "boost". The "maintaining" aspect of such an activity, however, does seem to get a bit more challenging with age :)

Very Nice. They say nice things come in 3s. ('cept one thing I can think of that comes in a pair :) )

I'm guessing you're the gal in the middle.

Hope to see you ladies at this weekend's Coffee Fest Show in Seattle. Tomorrow I'm flying into town from Santa Fe, NM. At a minimum, perhaps we'll cross paths at "The L.A. vs. Seattle Coffee Smackdown", a Barista eXchange sponsored event, at Victrola Coffee Roasters in Capitol Hill on Saturday Night. I still have no idea what a "smackdown" entails, but if it involves the likes of the 3 of you ladies, a few gallon drums of cooking oil, and a wrestling ring, then I'm there.

Thanks again for sharing the pics. Lovely.

Well thank you for the complements. Very impressed!! I'm the one on the far right. :)
