Square is what we use. 2.75% transaction charge and no monthly fee. No issues at all. Very happy with them. Square.com

Do you use it on an ipad?

We use an iPad with square. It works like a charm. Our register is CSM, but they combine nicely. No complaints on our end. It works well and is easy to learn/teach, which makes the staff happy and it saves the store money, which makes our boss happy :)

Emily-

How are you pairing your iPad with Square to CSM?  Can you explain how you're doing it? Interested in implementing Square with our CSM system.

Thanks

Jay-

They aren't connected by wires or anything. We have an iPad on our counter for credit card transactions and use CSM to add them to the daily numbers because square doesn't have a database that will include all the day's numbers. The register apps we've looked at cannot handle our extensive menu at this present time (but possibly later), so we use CSM as our register. Instead of running the credit card on the computer magnetic strip, we use square. The processing rates are cheaper and it's easy to use. Does that help?

i haven't researched it but my line of thinking would be to check the Costco.com prices for credit card processing.  I know they offer that under the Services menu.

I'm with Aaron on this one.  We checked into multiple services and Costco's deal through Elavon is one of the best.  Finance charges vary based on the card, but most range from 1.38% to 1.99% plus a small per transaction fee.  Relatively minimal hardware requirements depending on type of service.  They also have all levels of processing, standard physical terminal, virtual merchant, mobile, etc. Of course you do have to be a Costco member.

When I bought my shop, the previous owner was using Costco's merchant service. Unless they have drastically reduced there prices, there is no way they can be even close to what Square, Paypeace, and Salesvu are charging. The problem is in the per transaction fee and the other monthly fees that almost all merchant services carry, besides these 3 mentioned.

Square: 2.75% x $4.00 = 11 cents

Costco: 1.38% x $4.00 = 6 cents + 20 cents (this is what the per transaction fee was when I was with them)

11 cents verses 26 cents, and that doesn't even include all the other fees or the higher 1.99%. It's a no brainer!  You should crunch the numbers, when I switched to Square I saved $250-300 a month per location!

I also use it along side my existing POS, still waiting for an app that will do everything I need. The biggest thing that they all seem to lack is a loyalty and gift card integration.

They way we do it:

Ring in the sale as normal

at the pay screen instead of swiping the credit card as before, we swipe it through the Ipad using Salesvu.(you could use an ipod too, we chose an ipad planning for the future)

Once it completes the transaction in Salesvu we print a receipt.

Then input as a cash payment on our POS and put the receipt in our cash drawer to tally later with the ending shift count.

Salesvu is so close to having everything we need in our POS. The gift card and loyalty not built in is all that's holding us back from just using Salesvu alone. If you have an Ipad you can download the app and set up your account online for free and play around with it. I also think the swiper is much better, stronger, more substantial than Square. Just my opinion!

Hope that helps

Jeremy, thanks for the reply.

Our primary use is to process online transactions which Square would not do as effectively.

We're actually in the process of getting this set up with Elavon and now I'm thinking more about it, Elavon has you set up separate systems for in house, retail sales and another one for web sales.

This conversation has inspired me to look into foregoing Elavon for in house transactions in lieu of something like Square and using a different service for web sales.

One more note about the numbers.  Services likes Square make sense if most of your transactions are under $15.  Above $15 it starts to cost you more in finance charges.  I can see how this would make sense for a cafe, but most of our transactions will be above $15.
