Hey guys,
We've recently took over ownership of a shop. Currently there is a Micros  POS, but in order to make it all official and all, Micros wants a ton of money.
So, I'm trying to research getting other POS systems.
We would like to make it Mac based, but haven't had any luck finding many options.
What are you guys using? What would you recommend?
Any experience with Sixth Sense POS Software?

We use Coffee Shop Manager. We are fairly new (6 months in business), but it is working well for us so far.
Ditto Coffee Shop Manager. First one we got was perhaps 2003, since then we've added three more. Unlike other systems which require tons of custom programming and customization CSM is out of the box ready... and it's easy for all staff to use... no learning curve...

You can do sales, by hour/day/week/item/person... etc... all the various shift/end of day reports.

Check their website... have found them to be very helpful,

Cheers

Marek

PS: Not sure they have a MAC version, unless you dual boot the MAC and run it on the PC side (that's doable) ... and in fact, I have never actually seen a POS for MAC...
I use selby soft and it is a great system and the support you recieve is top of the line
selby soft is great. support is best part, i'd say. we used aloha previously and got pretty used to what we were getting out of our reports there and they've help us replicate.

great people.
try this, it's open source and thus free

Jeremiah-

I've spent a lot of time thinking about POS systems and those made by Aloha/Radiant and Micros are really quite nice systems. They offer tremendous amounts of flexibility and customization but can cost a considerable sum.

Coffee Shop Manager and Selby are also great systems, a bit more out of the box and (from what I've heard from users) the customization is a bit limited to what the manufacturer is willing to implement, so if you're looking for really cutting edge customization, it may not be the right choice.

As a die-hard Mac user since 1988, I have a fond preference for Mac systems. However, the current slate of Mac-based POS systems either: A)suck or B)need more development. Either way, I'm afraid I have to pass.

Just committed to a ten thousand dollar, two location system from Coffee Shop Manager. It's not cheap and I do wonder if they will be able to commit to the flexibility we will need, but I think it's a good solution to make that commitment.
Hello Jared;

Do you have a working template for coffee shop using open bravo??? If so, share a screenshot.

Thanks

Marek

The latest mac rumor that I have read is that they will eventually release their POS that they use in their retail stores (again just a rumor). Last time I went in they were using ipods with a shell on the outside that read credit cards and linked everything to a mac mini server where they could then print out receipts, etc. It would be interesting to wait and see if they integrate anything in with the ipads and actually release their system for commercial use. But in the meantime from the research I have done I ditto what Jay said above.
I already know that the time I purchase a POS system Mac will come out with something amazing about a month later.
good luck
be at the shop in half an hour, i'll SS it and post

you can open the image in another window if it's too small:
Just a heads up, the reporting features in CSM are notoriously innaccurate and cannot be trusted.

Specifically, in the past:

I've run a "customers per hour" report for one day. The "total customers" for the day, listed at the bottom, was a different figure than if I added up each individual hour. wtf!

Also, ran a sales tax report for one month (feb) and it left out 3 days! As in, it actually only listed 25 days, not 28. If i was not comparing it with a report from quicken, the mistake would have never been caught.

I strongly encourage anyone who uses CSM to be wary of any reports as they are often inaccurate -- the tax thing is especially frightning, because the IRS does not care if you underpaid because of a computer glitch.

CSM is easy to use for the barista, but if you need any sort of back of the house inventory/accounting/reporting, I recommend looking into other options, based on my experience.

You can try the free pos (open source pos). If this interests, I can connect you to them.

Best,
