Is it not in conjunction with Coffee Fest this year? I've been asking around and have not been able to find any info. Anyone hear any inklings on time-frame or location?

Coffee Fest Seattle is starts on Sept. 12 and goes through the 14th. To my knowledge the NWRBC will be held in conjunction with Coffee Fest. You might want to ask Michelle Campbell, she would know for sure.
Well that would make sense although on the Coffee Fest website they clearly mention the Latte Art competition but nothing about NWRBC, it's also not listed on the SCAA competition site, I've txted/emailed Michelle but she's a busy gal and hasn't responded yet.
To my knowledge, the NWRBC is run separate from coffee fest. The barista comps are run by the SCAA as you probably know. Coffee fest is just a trade show. I don't think a NWRBC has been held during a different time or location than coffee fest, at least in recent years. Plus, people I know who have been involved with this comp all tell me its going to be held during coffee fest, though I'm not sure where they are getting their info. If you do hear to the contrary be sure to let me know. Thanks.
Hang tight...there has been no announcements as to any of this years RBC's. There will be some information coming soon. Michelle and the rest of the USBC committee will be taking about this very top in the next few weeks.
Wherever, whenever... I will be there to see Mark Pfaff back in the saddle.
The regional barista competitions have a history of partnership with coffeefest. As it is the most efficient use of time and resources to hold an event where all the coffee people are! As Jordan pointed out these are two separate trade events, and the barista competition faces competition from the latte art contest for advertising, marketing, space, logistics, etc... The USBC seeks to organize these events (date and locations) that will help insure success and participation - we work closely with the regional hosts to determine the best scheduling for each event.

We are aggressively seeking a company willing to HOST the NWRBC this year! If you, your company or a company that you know of is interested, please contact Michelle Campbell or Nick Cho directly to complete the hosting application.

We will post more updates when more information is known.
Hmmmmmm....... Really? I NEVER hear from SCAA about sponsorship until the last minute every year. This is another one of those years.

Terry -

I agree, always having your hand out is not the best way to run an event, or an organization. However we must understand that many of the events and programs that we love and support are all sponsored; the funding is required to hold and run these events.

In years past, we (The USBC Committee) has had a list of companies or returning companies interested in hosting many if not all of the regional events. Unfortunately, this year we have not received any interest from a potential host for the NWRBC.

Is this a result of sponsorship fatigue, or the slowing economy? Possibly or probably!

Unfortunately, as soon as the USBC is concluded many of the organizers switch to complete the planning and operation of the WBC, thus we have a late start. However, there is still time to schedule and conduct a NWRBC, in the fall or in the spring - as long as it is concluded before the USBC next spring, and the WBC will be held at the SCAA and we need to have a National Champion before Atlanta.
I am pretty sure the NWRBC will not be at coffee fest this year. I hear it will be held later, in Portland.
When I asked Michelle Campbell about it she said:
"The 2008-2009 Regional Barista Competition Calendar is not completed to date. As soon as we have dates set they will be posted on the SCAA website. Our goal is to have our Regional Calendar posted by end of July."
Well it's really lame to have no notice! I just really hope, for the sake of the competitors, they don't announce on August 1st that it's going to be at Coffee Fest. It's just not kosher....yes I am whining...it takes a lot of planning&prep to do these things and having a solid timeline is kind of a necessity...Just getting a solid yes/know on Sept would be nice...
Lauren -The USBC (National Competition) will be in Portland, Oregon March 5-8, 2009. The NWRBC (NW Regional Competition) has not yet been scheduled. This may be the confusion as there are two events in your part of the country this season.
