Coffee, The National Drink

"Back in the days of the Boston Tea Party, drinking coffee became an act
of patriotism as Americans protested the excessive tax levied by King
George III on their tea. The Continental Congress, as a result, made
coffee the national drink. Coffee houses soon became gathering places

I was pleasantly surprised when I came across this great article on Mid-City Caffe while I was reading the newspaper on the Metro.


A NEW CAFE HAS been brewing on 14th Street NW, in the space above Miss Pixie's furniture shop. Dubbed Mid City Caffe, the shop — the brainchild of graphic designer Fernando Acha and Mick Mier, owner and designer of D.C.'s 1905 restaurant — has a wholly retro vibe.

Another fancy coffee place, thank goodness!

After several delays, Mid City Caffé finally opened Saturday at 1626 14th St. N.W., a floor above the quirky (read: hot pink) Miss Pixie's Furnishings and Whatnot.
