Hey man, good to see another East Bay rep on here. I'm pulling together a team of kickass baristas to start a worker-owned cafe. I have 5 and need 2 or 3 more. We're all ex-Nomad (Oakland, on Shattuck) people but we're looking for some outside talent now. The current owner is running Nomad into the ground, and we're expecting him to give up and sell within the next few months, so we're trying to have everything in place for when that happens.

Anyway, as a Barefooter, I thought you might know some good east bay baristas who might be interested in running a baller cafe. I have a complete business plan up on google docs and a rough draft of our coop Bylaws, if anyone wants to see them. Cheers! Great coffee, by the way.

Sup Newbeezy, thanks for the sweet ups. I'm badge numero uno at Red Berry. Jeff (Hampton) says you're cute--OK, he didn't *say* that, but I know he thinks it.

Wait, is he on here?

El Salvador origin trip

Posted on January 11, 2009 at 11:54am 2 Comments

Getting very excited. We get to go to El Salvador again this year to visit tons of farms. We are especially excited about getting to spend two days at our favorite coffee farm Finca San jose. We will also be visiting our newest farm partner El Porvenir and Aconcagua. Going Feb 6th through the 14th. Can't wait!

Rwanda COE auction is today

Posted on October 23, 2008 at 6:51am 3 Comments

We will be bidding on some coffees in a group. There has not been a lot of interest in this auction stateside. I am concerned for the overall prices and the impact to the farmers. I hope that more people end up bidding and bring the average price up to make a difference for all of the hardworking farmers. They deserve it!

No more hot coffee

Posted on October 2, 2008 at 6:54am 0 Comments

So the more I cup coffee the more I am convinced that we should not be serving any coffee to customers that is over 160 degrees F. When we cup we don't even really taste anything untill it reaches below 160 degrees F. And it is best between 80 to 130F.

SO I keep thinking that we have to figure out a way to have customers only drink coffee that is less than 160F degrees. Sounds crazy but the coffee tastes so much better cooler. When it is too hot people want to add cream and… Continue
