I am writing an essay on the fairtrade movement...I am learning so much! I would love to hear the thoughts of those directly involved in the movement, whether you are part of and NGO, retailer, buyer, or producer!

Hope to hear from anyone...

I have heard of that - have yet to watch it. Disclaimer about the essay .... it is not very in depth - the professor wanted a short, superficial study. But when i'm finally done i'll put it up. don't judge haha :)

I'm sure you've probably heard of this if not already seen it, but go watch "Black Gold" - excellent film that explains *exactly* why you need to buy fair trade.

Also, a plug for my friends:
www.buildingnewhope.org - from there, click on the Coffee tab. They are a little NGO based in Nicaragua who support a fair trade coffee co-operative.
best of luck with it all, and please post the essay when you're done!

hey noelle,

in case you haven't looked into it yet, i would recommend researching some of the newer buying ethics that Stumptown Coffee Roasters is implementing in their Direct Trade method. It's a really good example of a positive direction for trade. And it seems to be somewhat of an evolutionary 'next step' in relation to Fair Trade economics. I look forward to reading your essay.

thanks,
jason
