Hello fellow Baristas!

So a bunch of us here in Chicago are going to be taking the Megabus for
an overnight stay in Minneapolis, MN on Feb. 5th-6th. We've got kids
from Intelligentsia, Brothers K, Buzz, and the Coffee Studio so far
that plan on coming along. I'm posting this to ask the all of you out
there in the internet where we should plan visiting. This will be a
48hr stretch of coffee and beer. What are your favorite shops? Bars? Is
Minneapolis bike friendly? Anyone know if we can bring our bikes on the
Megabus? We may have sleeping arrangements but offers for
couches/floors are greatly appreciated. Should be a jolly good time.
Can't wait to meet you guys up in MN!
Cheers
Sara T.

...and also, Minneapolis is very bike friendly. I've heard we're second in the nation for bikers 'per capita'.
You'll definitely have to check out the angry catfish if you're all bringing bikes. It's a bike shop, too.

I don't want to get this thread off topic, but I will be going to Chicago around mid-March for a week, so you should shoot me a message or something with some places to check out there.
William, you should actually check out the same places that these guys are coming from. All are great shops. Sara, though it's already been recommended, I would double the recommendation for Bull Run. I have been to all the shops up there except for the angry catfish (heard of it's possible opening awhile back; recently opened?) and Bull Run is a strong leader of them, though all are truly exceptional shops. Also, the "greenway" is a highway through minneapolis for bikers and it goes directly behind bull run. Tangentally, I would also recommend punch pizza, located directly next door to bull run for the best pizza you have ever had. Let me know what you think of all these places. They are near and dear to my heart.
Come on over to Angry Catfish. We are fully open and serving coffee and repairing bicycles. Still piecing together our bicycle retail space. We will be happy to show you all around too. We are connected to a great bar/restaurant called Buster's. Good food and over 200 bottle selections. See ya soon!
You should talk to the crew at Cafe Imports and see their side of the biz...
Thanks so much for all your replies! We're definitely coming out to visit; just bought a bus ticket! I dunno if we'll have any friends with a car so how is public trans in MN? Bus? Train? I guess megabus wont let me take my bike so that's out unfortunately.
Hey Sara! I'm from Minneapolis and lived in a small town about 45 min. east called Stillwater. It's a cute town with great bars and there's a Belgian bakery/bike shop with fresh roasted (one pound at a time) coffee and incredible pastries. I worked there for a year and you should definately check it out. Since I left mn I have not found a coffeeshop I liked more than the Bikery!

Don't miss Blacksheep Coffee Cafe in South St. Paul, co-owned by Peter Middlecamp (finalist in the 2007 US Barista Championship). Peter runs his own roaster and has an awesome coffee menu, teas, pastries.
Hey,

I believe Nathan Black is going with you, no? I used to work with him at Bros K... anyway, I don't know of many great coffee shops there, but my best friend goes to school there and may know of some place you can crash if you still need it.

Let me know! (Or have Nathan give me a call)

Nathan just bailed! He got the date wrong for some meeting at Bro K and now can't come. I think it may be just James Liu (former Intelligentsian now at Buzz cafe) Everyone's canceled! Lol oh well I'm still coming. James and I considered staying up all night at a diner and sleeping on the bus ride home since Nathan was our hook up for places to sleep. Drop me a message if you have a floor/couch/whatever for two poor baristas! We will buy you beer and or brunch. Adventures with strangers are always more fun than a hotel room. :O)

You are welcome to stay at our house. I have a couch and an extra bed on the floor! Not sure why it is still there. We live a mile away from our shop. Let me know what you think. -Adam 989.954.0001
