At the end of June I'm hoping in the car with my buddy and fellow barista on a road trip of epic proportions... Leaving from Houston,TX our journey finds us heading west and then north to Seattle.

I would really appreciate everyone's advice on sites to see and where the good coffee be :)

So our tentative schedule of cities:

Dallas, TX
Albuquerque, NM (leading us to the Grand Canyon)
Las Vegas, NV
Los Angeles, CA ( from there up the 101 on to..)
San Fransisco, CA
Eugene, OR
Portland, OR
Seattle, WA
Vancouver, B.C.

And if you work in a shop or own one in and around any of these cities I'd love to visit with ya...

I am jealous. Go to Crater Lake.
Hey Lindsey,
If you're in Albuquerque, it's just a quick drive up to Santa Fe where you could stop by and visit us at Coffee Kids. While we don't do coffee, we'd gladly share information about the coffee-farming families we work with. Let us know if interested. http://www.coffeekids.org

And Holy Spirit Espresso does some fantastic coffee up here.
These are only the "big" names, but still worth it.

LA: Intelligentsia, both locations (get Kyle to make you a drink if he's around)

San Fran: Blue Bottle, and Ritual

Portland: Stumptown ('fo 'sho), Billy Wilson's shop Barista

Seattle: The V's, Victrola and Vivace. Also, the original Starbucks in Pikes Place Market. It's like a twisted sort of Mecca.

Vancouver: The fabled 49th Parallel

I know there's tons more, especially in Vancouver and Portland. Have loads of fun.
That is an absolutely epic road-trip. I really only know California, and you have received some good recommendations so far, but I would also add LAMill, Cafe Luxxe, and The Funnel Mill to your LA area list, and Four Barrel in SF Barefoot Cafe in Santa Clara, and Verve in Santa Cruz should be on any Bay Area list. I hear good things about Temple in the Sacramento area but haven't been myself, and would recommend stopping at the Naked Lounge in Chico if your trip takes you to that general area...it is 20 minutes from the tiny town where I grew up, and I feel very fortunate to have such a good coffee place when I go home to what I would consider a relatively remote location.

When you are in LA, be sure to stop by Intelligentsia Venice and say hi.
That trip sounds like such a good adventure!!!
I've been trying to get one kinda like that but for the east coast together, but it probably won't happen til next spring now...
I bet you're gonna have a blast!
Let us know how it is!

Stop by Joebella Coffee Roasters , just off the 101 in Templeton, CA. Call a couple days ahead and we'll try to schedule a cupping for you and your buddy. 805-434-2479..
Tanks everyone for all the suggestions, the trip is becoming more and more real as the planning gets completed. There will be plenty of photos and there's bound to be some good stories, and hopefully some new friends :)
If you are driving to SF from LA you have to stop in Santa Cruz in the Monterey Bay and visit Verve. They do an excellent job and are all wonderful people.
