We were talking around the store today about all the different names for drinks. We call coffee with a shot a Red Eye. We have also heard it called a Shot in the Dark.

Along those same lines, we are trying to decide what to call a Chai with espresso. We have heard Chai Charger, Chai High, Morning Glory Chai, Dirty Chai, and Hail Mary.

We would love to hear what you all call these drinks!

Even had one guy that insisted on calling it a "Fistfight in A Cup."

Creative.

I have one that will only order it as "jet fuel". I've always hoped he was referring to the kick, not the taste.

We did have a customer come in (I was not on bar) and argue with us about the name. Our redeye isn't just 1 shot - we drop in more as the cup size increases to give the same flavor - 1-1/2 for a 12z, 2 for a 16z, 3 for the big gulp. This guy insisted that there were different names for different quantities of shots - redeye, blackeye, etc. I've only ever seen redeye and shot in the dark.

Ever run across that?
I personally like using the term red eye for one shot and black eye for two shots. What i really like though is a nice single origin french press black eye. Pour the french press in a 8 - 12 oz. cup and put it under your pf and pour right on top of it. Amazing crema floating on top and an surprisingly smooth coffee. mmmmmm...
I have a client who called it a hammer head, He's from Quebec
Some other names (hammerhead, etc) at this link: http://coffeefaq.com/site/node/71

Dirty Chai is the most frequent name i hear for a chai with a shot, however, frequency is no reason to name it the same. Cheers...
i've always called coffee and a shot a "shot in the dark",
although, On an episode of Buffy in season six, Xander refers to it as a "Red Eye". Buffy doesn't lie, so I have since changed my wording.
um,
anyway...
dirty chai
You all are awesome!
We have had a blast hearing all your responses.
Keep 'em coming LOL
Jenny
I read about that some where, there are apparently red eyes, black eyes and blue eyes.

In Anchorage, it's universally called a "sludge cup".
Always hear Shot in the Dark & Red Eye (I use Red Eye). I did start calling it a Colombian Pain killer (assuming I brewed Colombian that day, or Ethiopian Pain Killer, etc) but I've since come up with a new drink that I call the Colombian Pain Killer. I've heard people call a Chai with a Shot of Espresso a Shanghai Express. I dont know why since Chai isnt from China. I guess you could call it Calcutta Express. You could call it a Shot of Life since Chai means life & its got a shot in it.
himilayan hammer (dirty chai) and defibrillator (we are next to a medical school)
Those sound like names for American Gladiators... I like 'em!
I call it a waste of good coffee.

(or espresso)
