Just want to get some input on what type of hot cup people are using. We will be opening up a shop soon and need to decide on hot cups.

The paper cups are perceived to be the "green" way to go, but heat dissipates quickly requiring the use of a sleeve ($$) to prevent burning your hands and customers who like their drinks piping hot have to drink them quickly. Branding this type of cup seems to be less costly since you would only have to brand the sleeve.

Thin foam cups do retain heat better, but have the perception of not being good for the environment and may alter the taste of the coffee. Custom colors and branding are expensive.

if i go to a coffee shop and get a to go coffee in a foam cup!

-First i will put the coffee full in the garbage

-second i will never go there again

-third i will give them a bad review on trip advisor

The same go il they served me a piping hot coffee

Go with the paper and the sleeve and price your product accordingly.

People will pay. Especially if you're delivering a good product and appropriate value.

The only thing I'd ever drink out of a styro cup would be water IF on death's door from dehydration.

Thank you all for weighing in on this subject. It looks like paper cups have a much higher perceived value than thin foam cups.

We use the fusion cup by dart. It does not change the taste of the coffee but the cup is more expensive than paper. It holds the temp better. When I judge a coffee shop I do it on the taste and quality of coffee not the kind of cup that is used.

Thank you Kathy for your input.

I have experience using the Dart Fusion cup. In your case, is the Dart Fusion cup more expensive when you factor in the cost of having to add a sleeve to the paper cup? Personally, it does not matter to me if my coffee is in a paper or foam cup if I take it to go. If I am sitting at a coffee shop, I definitely prefer a ceramic cup. I agree with you that the foam cup does not change the taste of the coffee any more than paper cups would. The foam cup does maintain the temperature of the coffee longer, which (in my opinion) maintains the quality of the taste longer.

Paper is a natural resource but the inside of these cups are coated with wax or polyethylene to prevent them from leaking. And like foam cups that do not decompose in landfills, the coating on paper cups prevents the decomposition process. So the reason for my question was to get feedback on the perception of paper or thin foam because "perception is reality in the eye of the beholder". And as you can see from the responses for far, there are STRONG opinions for paper.

Most foam cups do alter the taste and smell of the coffee. Most paper cups do as well. I personally find the effects of the paper cup to be much less offensive though.

The Dart fusion is certainly the best foam cup on the market though.

I can safely say I've never had a really good cup of coffee served in a foam cup. Never. That doesn't mean it can't happen (I'm sure Kathy's shop would be an exception - I've never been there but will assume it is excellent), but all of the good shops I've been to have served their to-go's in paper if they did them at all.

Wow i can believe Foam cup is still and option anyway , if you decide to use the worst thing to put in our landfeld no mather how good is you coffee i wont touch it!! since the guy next door do a awsome coffee aswell and use papercup.

Foam cup , microwave is a big indicator in my opinion in the quality of product you are welling to do.

We use compostable paper/plastic cups and use a local composting company to compost for us. We price accordingly and make sure people know what we serve in.

Starbucks servers in a paper cup and it is the worst coffee ever. In my opinion that is and every one has one and opinion that is . But to put a negitive on trip adviser because of the cup is not neccessary.

Kathy i don t go to Starbucks neither!! They have microwave!!!

But saying that i and worst coffee served in foam cup than i got served at Starbucks

I have the right in my opinion and if i am concern about the planet and this is a big part of my experience in any food vendor!! Well as an Human been, i have the right to Review restaurant and coffee shop the way i want to!!

We got bad view because i speak french, because we don't sell Coke , and don't have 20 thousand flavour for the pump and because we don't have sugar free sirup!! Really all those review are not really justified, But there ware all opinion of costumer so the belong on trip advisor.

At The end it you choice!! But it My choice to dont go near your place if you use foam cup!!!

I just said it was unfair to judge the quality of the coffee by the cup . And to say the coffee was bad without tasting it is wrong. If you said on trip adviser that thay use foam cups therefore I just assume the coffee is bad that would be at least accurate and would give anyone reading the review all the information they needed to decide if they should not shop there. If I read on a trip adviser for you that you dont stock 20 thousand flavors and I wanted flavor I would go some where else. Since I drink my coffee black I would still stop at you store.Just think you should include all the information.
