Let me begin by saying that I like the way my two Anfims grind coffee. I also like the way that they distribute into the pf. I like the timers and they are shiny! BUT....
What is up with the huge gap between the burrs and the doser? I feel a little duped but all the hype of "no waste no finger striking". I like to finger strike and I do not like a quarter shot being left behind in the shoot every time I pull a shot. I think that too many people wanted to believe that this was the grinder to trump all (myself included). This clouded the practical view that all shop owners should have had before we bought into the hype. It has been a year now since Anfim hit the Baristas with the 'ultimate grinder'. Has it met expectations? Has it been the saviour to Barista trainers everywhere? Or is it just a great step in the right direction? Any one want to add any comments about their experiences with Anfim or other grinders that are better? Any one know antthig else about the new La Marzocco/David Schomer grinder? Has Mark at Synesso had time to do anymore r&d with a new grinder? As Barista, we need and deserve a Grail of a grinder.

Who is this Jay Caragay?
I have been thinking about the Compak. It seem to be a great choice. No insight into what is comming down the pipe eh Jay?
Well I ordered my Compak yesterday and I hope to get the Anfim worm drive mod kit in Seattle. Who says you can't have it all? Thanks for the input, Jay thanks for tipping the Compak scales for me!
try the new mazzer major electronic. Sweet ace grinder. 83ml burrs, built in fan grinds about 20gr in 4 seconds with little waste. Super happy, shots are boss! Comes in gold woo hoo. way less clumping then other doserless grinders that I have used. Best grinder i have used to date. Perfect for a busy bar.
Agreed on the Mazzer. This past weekend at Slow Food Nation, I provided 2 Robur E and 4 Major E Grinders. On all accounts the Baristas loved them. Check them out here

I see the Robur E.. But I don't see the Major E? Sounds kinda cool! For the community not so high rollin'! Is there a retrofit kit?

Here is one I found on line. You can get them in Canada from bravo coffee group although they are not approved. I did have a guy come in to have it approved and it cost me about 100 bucks.

The Mazzer-e grinders supplied by Espressoparts.com for Slow Foods Nation were rad and held it down for the busiest espresso bar i have ever seen!

I feel like the much neglected issue gone unaddressed in the anfim is the fact that its burr speed, though slower because of its 70+ mm burrs, is probably higher and creates more heat than a typical conical system. I would favor the Mazzer E because of that all day long, not to mention that many of the clumping issues are addressed in the E by its bowl/chute. I hear that Compak is also at working creating a similar doserless system with their conicals... should be interesting.
Cant wait to see what new grinders come out in the next two years. I am not convinced increasing automation is the key we need for better coffee.

The timer (automation) has little if anything to do with improved shots, but rather mucho to do with less coffee waste, especially with less experienced baristi. If you're the one paying the bills and signing the paychecks you'll appreciate that aspect.
