Hey Zech! That's awesome about the fundraiser, I wish you the best for it! Right now I'm helping cover those shift hours @ Dancing Goats. So out of the last 17 days, I've had one of those days off from work. We are holding out for the best person to fill the job position... so I'm a little bit tied up right now. lol...
Would love to come and visit Athens another time, I really haven't had a "quality" visit there as of yet. It's been only quick and focused visits. Keep me posted on things! PLEASE! Sincerely, harry

Ha Ha SO! Do it man. Just make the gears more stylized to match your tat already. Are u thinking sleeve? My design will be my first arm tat and the beginnings of a sleeve. Unfortunately I vowed to wait till I signed the papers to get my own cafe, and the way things are going, I'll be waiting around till I'm 35 to start my sleeve. Oh well

I know we all want to attend. Name a good spot close to their where three or four of us could set up some tents for the night.

I have to admit, i'm a bit jealous. i would love to make a trek like that. i unfortunately do not have a bike. (hopefully by the beginning of the summer i should) however, you have my full support. i know the baristas at both my shops would love to meet you. they are way cool, and are always up for hanging out.

i am always up for talking coffee. i've only been at it for 3 years, but am loving every minute of it. i dream of starting my own shop one day. there is SO much i still need to learn, and compared to others i feel i know nothing. haha. but let me know when you are making it to nashville and we will definitely hang out!!

ps- other than this now being a really lonng comment. one shop that i work at (bongo java) is a full supporter of Coffee Kids. our owner is friends with one of the guys that started it. small world.

Sucks I couldn't make it to the shop up there last night, but I'll be back Athens way soon, no worries there. I really wanna check out that new spot up there as well. I think it's called Two Story Coffee (?).

Either way, just so you know, we weren't opening like for the first time, I was just working the opening shift at the shop and the show that night was in our downstairs. We have a venue spot that we call The Nest ( an obvious but perfect play on our name, Blackbird).

As far as web presence we have a website but it's heavily in need of work, I'm trying to motivate my bosses in that direction heavily, but it's got a picture of our roaster, Don, and our beautiful Ambex roaster (15 kilo). Otherwise we are on twitter under TheDarkFowl, and you can find us on facebook for updates on concerts and specials.

Do you guys have a website?
I love your cross country ride mission, good luck I plan to help out as much as possible.
peace, Chris

Airport with the press is a great idea, and it avoids needing a typical brewer. I also thought perhaps the local roast would be the "quick and dirty" and then highlight quality roasters for the same reasons you suggest.

Getting onto the ships is near impossible. It's a racket and $$ to get on. My plan is that local cafe will sell me baked goods wholesale, bars and croissants likely, to pair with the coffee. I'll probably go with a pou-over and press, though chemex looks great too. But all the glass, and on a bike! Kind of scary.

I'm headed to portland next week (USBC) so I'll send an update. Depending on your timeline, I wonder if ordering two bikes saves on shipping and manufacturing, etc. The jury is still out on whether or not I'll be up this season or the next.

Similar story for me. There is a mobile espresso cart for sale up here. They're asking too much for it, and I thought "it would be cool if I could get a mobile cart towed by a bike or something." I started searching for bike vending setups, found lots of ice cream style ones, and then velo. Bam!

I'm not sure how well it will work here. It rains all the time. I can say that other venders do very well in the summer. We get 250k visitors in huge chunks of ships. But how do I educate rushed tourists to stop and wait for a pour-over or press? One thing I think I'm going to do is feature Alaskan Roasters, of which a couple are quite good, and our local one is improving.

Are you on the ride? Where you at?

A Bakfiet? That's the craziest thing I ever....actually, that's what I was planning! Too freakin' funny. You must have seen Cafe Velo then? I'm heading to Portland to meet with him and check things out in March, during USBC.

Absolutely! I'll PM you my contact info. I've also got an extra room if you need a hot meal and place to crash. Pretty sweet concept you've got - wish I could join you!

Sweet. Looking forward to a possible Sitka stop. I'd bet that I could raise some CK funds with your visit, perhaps do a cupping or something. Sitka is a progressive, generous town, likes its coffee (but hasn't experienced the peak of what's out there).

My business idea is coffee related. I'm teaching most months out of the year, with summers off. Summers are a huge draw for visitors here. The plan is to do coffee events from time to time with the new cafe during the off season, and a cart in the summer to pick up extra business.

I did a bike/mountaineering/fundraiser trip back in 2003. It was a blast, and raised a little bit of $$ for a local domestic violence shelter. Best of luck to you, count me in as a supporter.

I would like to hear more about your theory behind 1+1= doesn't always = 2.
What is your favorite espresso+milk= beverage.
