Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
I first learned the art of barista when I started my first shop back in 2006. I attended Matt's advanced training at ABC's in 2010. I have since trained more than 500 baristas, judged the USBC Super-Regional in Chicago in 2013 and continue to consult in many areas including barista training.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
Philippines, Guatemala, Panama, and Costa Rica.
About Me:
I completed a 20 year career in the US Air Force and upon retirement, I started my first shop in Anchorage, AK. I went on to be the GM for Caffe D'arte of Alaska as well as manage a multi-unit cafe operation in Anchorage. After moving to the lower 48, I worked in roasting. In 2013 I was part of the team that won the Karnataka Challenge international roasting challenge. I specialize in roast levels and blending. I eventually moved to Seattle and headed up sales at Visions Espresso Service before moving into business development for Visions in Asia. I was home based in the Philippines where I also taught at the Barista and Coffee Academy of Asia, specializing in cold brew coffee. When the plandemic hit, I moved back to the Seattle area where I was the Operations Manager at Visions until going back into consulting in late 2020. In 2023 I brought together the founding members of ColdPerk and now we are changing the coffee industry and providing answers to those wishing to kick the bucket.
About My Company:
At ColdPerk, the buzz is real. This is where science meets the art of coffee. Our brewer produces espresso strength concentrate in as little as 5 minutes without electricity or paper filters. We use up to 40% less coffee and 50% less water for the most sustainable brewing method available. We are removing the entry barrier for many in impoverished countries around the world. You don't have to have an espresso machine in hot climates where 90 plus percent of drinks sold are cold.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
People, and then Innovation and seeing what is next.
