So, we got a message from Ricky about bottled water when it comes to specialty coffee catering.  As we all know, water is one of the most important parts of our job in coffee and something we should all think about.

That being said, we see that there are basically two options.

1. Check your local bottle distribution companies.  Here in Oklahoma City, we have 3 choices. We ordered from all of them and tested to see which best worked with the coffees are offering.  We then order them in 5 gallon jugs and have them delivered each week to our offices.  Availability will depend on your location.  We have used Culligan and Ozarka.

2. Buy water containers (empty) and use your custom filtration system at your kitchen or shop.  If you have already invested in a custom water filtration system for your shop, that might be the best water for you.  Those are designed to add or take away from your area's water and would be much cheaper to use than buying 5 gallon jugs and getting them refilled.

What are your thoughts?

What kind of water did you order from your local water companies? Im assuming just a Drinking Water instead of Spring Water but I guess it depends on your spring water. What kind of price do you pay for 5 gallon jugs? I currently just filter my own water into the jugs but if I start doing more catering, I'll go back to getting deliveries. Im lucky in that my local city water is great but having sealed jugs for transfer is nice.
Mitch,

Yup, we just use the water they supply to others for the water coolers. Prices seem to range from $5.95-$7.25 depending on how many we get at a time and how many "deposits" we have out.
I cater events in many different locations, and i always use the tap water for the coffee we serve.
Do you really think it makes such a difference? my clients never complained... קייטרינג

Coffee is mostly water. The better the water, the better the coffee! Many people are accustomed to receiving bad coffee so they may not say anything but if it were perfect coffee, people would talk!

Water does need certain minerals to really aid the coffee but filtered water is for sure the best bet.
