So... being new to the area and all, I'm a little out of touch with what I'm assuming is a "already in existence" weekly/monthly coffee culture. There's certainly a strong showing of quality baristas around here... where the throwdowns at? Coffee crawls? Random lectures/seminars/classes/cuppings?

Inform an uninformed barista, por favor.

Bryan, I assume you mean Portland Oregon? I'm always up for an adventure to visit all the independent shops in this fine city. I was just at Heart Coffee on SE Burnside (2211 SE Burnside) and they are cutting edge. In fact, I'm meeting a chef there tomorrow afternoon so I can try the siphon coffee!
Alright, well... stay tuned then I suppose, because we'll (Nor'West Coffee) be arranging some monthly throwdown stuff starting... I dunno... soon.

Yeah, stay tuned.

I totally agree.

I think a little Stumptown vs. The Couve' action is in order.

Since hearts be a pouring, seems appropriate for "The Battle for The Columbia" to begin Saturday before Valentine's, February 13th 2010 6pm at Nor'West Coffee Roastery Coffeehouse. Be prepared to bring on your best Macchiato, Cappuccino and 12oz Latte heart pours! Details to be revealed shortly in Events.

Welcome!

The Stumptown Annex cups every day at 11am and 3pm. Every last Sunday of the month, Ristretto roasters cups. Little Red Bike cups Courier's coffee's at random. Coffeehouse 5 cups Coava & others on weekends at 3pm.

Lectures/seminars/classes i'm not sure about, but ABC will always have something going on.

As far as smackdowns go, there's usually something every few months. I'll get in touch if i hear about anything. Or drop by Albina Press/Coffeehouse Northwest/Barista/Etc. and hit them up for info.

Hate to bust the bubble, but Stumptown Annex has recently changed the times of their cuppings. I think they are now at noon and 2.

Also, Coffeehouse 5 has not had the turn out they've wanted for cuppings and are scaling back. Now it is Saturdays at 3, and on Sundays if people request it. So if you want them to keep it up, they need more people to attend.
I wish there were more cool kids to play with by us.... it's lonely our in our suburban wasteland.

Next time I visit relatives in Crystal Lake, I'll have to drop by.
