If you have an online store who built it? Hows it working for ya?

We are making connections to be distributors and would like to add a store on our site to help as another source of income. The problem is we don't know much bout building websites and don't have a ton of money to contract it out.

Any suggestions?

There are a lot of options out there, and it will depend on a few things. What platform is your website supported by, php? basic html? Will you be hosting it, or choosing a cart that is hosted on another server.

Think about how many items you will be selling, options, etc.

I would check out:

Shopify: http://www.shopify.com

Volusion: http://www.volusion.com

Big Cartel: http://www.bigcartel.com (for a smaller indie cart)

Here are some reviews as well: http://shopping-cart-review.toptenreviews.com/

Good luck!

We'll be able to host our own. Shopify is $60 monthly and hosts it for you.
I've got a quote for $2500-$3500 to have some build it for me.

Is that a reasonable quote?
Well, it really depends on what your time is worth and the scope of the project. $2500-$3500 is a lot of money these days for carts ... I do not really recommend building one from scratch as we have done that in the past, and it can be difficult to update, and the one person who built it will become your "tech support" person every time there is an issue. My opinion ...

OR do you mean, have someone build your Shopify cart for you for $2500-$3500 ... that makes more sense. Truthfully, they make it pretty easy to do on your own with some basic php and graphic design ability. Kind of like Wordpress or other sites, wysiwyg.

How many items and what kind of items are you selling?

We're selling wholebean coffee, rattleware, astoria, bodum, chemex. And hopefully adding other equipment and smallwares soon. I've got the trial shopify but have no graphic design experience.

I'm just trying to see where our money will be best spent.
