I just wanted to post an update on what’s going on with the Barista Guild. Many of you think that because the BGA site and forum have gotten a little stagnant, there’s not much going on with the Guild, and you couldn’t be more wrong. First, to address the BGA site or lack of, and the forum postings: There is a new SCAA website that is coming online here soon, and as part of it, a new BGA website. As such, the site has been kinda left out to pasture a bit. I hate it, but it’s true. The new website will be a much better place for real coffee community to take place, and will please most people who are looking for more out of the BGA site, like myself. The new website is scheduled to be online by the end of October.
The second thing is, even though there hasn’t been very much action on the BGA site and forum, there is a lot going on in the Barista Guild. As you know, we have two co-chairs Bronwen Serna and Heather Perry, who are not only previous US Barista Champs, but extremely dedicated to pushing the BGA forward to it’s full potential. I am including a copy of the newest newsletter to show you some of the exciting things the Executive Council is working on for improving the BGA. It’s just a step, but we are moving in the right direction. We are stoked and excited about the direction we are taking the BGA, and really think that you will appreciate and enjoy seeing what’s going on.
So, if you are a BGA member, know that there are some really cool things coming along that you can be excited about. The value you have been looking for is here, and in the biggest ways possible for a volunteer organization. If you are not a BGA member yet, or have been watching from the sidelines, let me encourage you to jump in, the water’s nice. We can’t do it all on our own, and can really use the help in seeing the BGA reach it’s full potential. There has never been a better time to be a part of something that will really help make you better as a barista than becoming a bigger part of your coffee community. I can attest for that myself. After watching from the sidelines for so many years, I finally decided to see how I could help, and the opportunities are endless. So, consider joining the BGA. I know you will see the value is there.
Please read over the new newsletter, and give your thoughts.
