Event Description

Early this year Ethiopia Haile Selassie blew us away as about the best DP since IMV '07. I set aside a 15# green vac pack in the freezer for NY Day to celebrate the One Year opening of the retail coffeehouse at the Roastery location. Well wouldn't you know late in the year Ethiopia Jimma -Nigusie Lemma came along and blew me away again as quite possibly my favorite SO espresso straight shot of the year. And as a cap' it's like a great fruity artisan chocolate cup of creamy hot choclate.

So now instead of Haile being the Star NY Day it'll be two of our SO espresso grinders in a Heavy Weight fight to the finish. Who will win the title as best SO espresso of 2010! The Betting Line too close to call:)

The contenders spent time with the USRC 3k today in preparation for the match in 8 days. Man, the smell of both enough to make me swoon, so delish. Gonna be a hellova spro down!

There will also likely be a warm-up performance in SO espresso grinder #3 by a new Peru also spending time in the USRC today. Smell and post roast bean munch say smooth and delightful with dancing light lemon-lime zest.

As always, our flagship Delirium blend will be on hand to offer encouragement to the combatants.

Both coffees will be available New Years day not only as an espresso, but also available whole bean for purchase to brew at home.

Heard rumor Head Bean and Roast Master changed roast hats and will be bringing in some of his maple and apple wood smoked Ham, apple wood smoked Sharp Cheddar and cherry wood smoked Gouda and assorted crackers for munching too.

Six days in the waiting and just witnessed a practice match officated by The Bric'. Back to back they faced each other, drew their portafilters and shot each other. At one end of the field Haile Selassie the other Jimma -Negusie Lemma. Both with demitasses fiercely blazing. No quarter given, no white flags here, they mean business even if the Title Match isn't for a day and half.

The crowd grew hushed as the crema cleared, their elixir exhausted. A close duel to be sure yet was the thought to be straight shot favorite Jimma holding back? Did Jimma let Haile take the field today only to rest another day and half and surprise Haile with his deadly pull when it really counts? More will be revealed!

(And yup I drank both double shots this evening. Prepared myself for the ordeal with a 24.5 hour day yesterday followed by 3 hours sleep:)
