About Me:
With a background in environmental education and international environmental policy, I founded Green Café Network to address the critical need for Americans to conserve our natural resources and change our consumer behavior toward more environmentally sustainable practices. As a coffee lover, former barrista and environmental educator, I believe that operating an environmentally responsible business goes hand in hand with serving excellent coffee, building loyal staff and customers and operating a profitable business. GCN has a growing community of cafes that strive to make responsible decisions for their business and the environment, while role modeling environmental responsibility for their customers - and I am excited to be a part of it!
About My Company:
Green Café Network is a non profit organization whose mission is to bring sustainability to the mainstream by greening the coffeehouse industry and harnessing café culture for environmental education and action. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, GCN provides technical assistance, resources and training in green business practices to help cafes reduce waste, conserve energy and water and purchase environmentally responsible products. GCN is the only organization in the country that is working with coffeehouse owners, their staff and communities to conserve natural resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting green business practices and building a movement toward sustainability in the coffeehouse industry.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
My favorite thing about working in the coffee industry is the people I meet and the excitement many of us feel about the potential to make dramatic improvements in its environmental and social impacts and catalyze a massive shift toward sustainability throughout the coffee industry. I also love the way coffee brings people together, builds community and sparks innovation.
