Profile Information

What is your position in the coffee industry?
coffee enthusiast
Where are you located? ( City and Country )
St. Thomas, Canada
How many years have you been in the industry?
10
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
I worked for Starbucks for 61/2 years and worked up to Store Manager. I am working on a business plan to open my own coffee house. I want to learn latte art and will probably solicit the training from a lady in Toronto who I think will supply my coffee.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
Guatemala is on the horizon. Costa Rica and Nicaragua would follow.
About Me:
I am passionate about providing quality in the cup and exceptional service to each customer who steps in the door. Getting to know my customers' tastes and preferences is high on my list of priorities. The food is second but it must measure up to the standards set by the coffee.
About My Company:
The name has not been decided on but we will sell and brew Fair Trade/Organic coffee and tea. I like the idea of brewing every cup fresh though I'm not sure how feasible that will be. My staff must be excited about the coffee business and providing great customer service.
What is your favorite thing about the coffee industry?
It has a way of bringing people around the world together. Whether they are from a single community near my shop or buyers and farmers looking to do business together. We're all looking to achieve excellence in the cup!

Recommendations for an espresso machine for a new cafe

Posted on March 21, 2009 at 7:46am 0 Comments

I am opening a new cafe in Ontario Canada in a few months time and I am looking for your opinions on the best machines for the money. I have only worked on the La Marzocco so something similar to that is what I lean towards. Do I need to buy a brand new machine? I expect my cafe will only do moderate numbers but the location has potential. If I'm only serving 150 - 200 customers a day do you think a 2-group will suffice?
