I would recommend a trip to Berastagi. Its a couple of hours from Medan and was at one stage a Dutch resort town as well as a plantation center. Its not too difficult to get too and has quite a few expats scattered around. If (he/she?) is an experienced Indo traveller and has more time- then exploring the Lintong/Sidikalang growing areas or even, at a stretch, Aceh.
Yeah he (Adam) skyped me tonight. He was really impressed. He's no coffee expert but has a good palette and is pretty hard to please so thumbs up there. He'll be back for sure. Thanks for hooking him up. How is it coming along?
Living the dream bro. Awesome good for you. Seems like you're generating some positive vibes in the area.
Just sent an email out to my London people to get on down there.
Photos look great. Who took them?
EXCELLENT! Can feel the anticipation building from here. i "hear" (and no disrespect intended for the UK BX'ers) that kiwis and aussies are struggling to find a coffee that suits in London. I "hear" there is one place, appropriately named 'Flatwhite' which is good
Well I just saw on the stuff.co.nz website that they have found the first Tuatara Nest in 200 years... maybe thats a good sign for you and your battle with beauracracy!!
Hope its all moving along nicely for you. If the Indonesian currency continues crashing like it has over the last 3 days, I may need to come knocking on your door for a job! Where in Welly were you working when you lived there? Such a vibrant coffee town...
Mate sounds like its going to be great! I am probably going to be up your way again mid 09. This visit will be too early I would expect. I will for sure drop in and say hi!
Yes, we work closely with small holders here. My focus is on roasting, so we buy direct from our own villagers where and when possible. Know Wanganui pretty well, my Uncle has a house near the Racecourse and my Cousin is also living there. Good luck with the opening...you have a confirmed date yet??
