Actually I have an Alex made by Izzo. Its directly plumbed, horizontal boiler, heat exchanger with the E61 group head, used in commercial machines. Manometers for group head and steam wand pressure. I get excellent performance on the extraction. Steaming to get that microfoam just takes more time than on a commercial machine.

Hey Jon,

Saw your conversation with Jessica about wanting to open a coffee shop in Rockford. Check out our web-site @www.uppermidwestgourmet.net. I believe I can help you with your dream. Get back to me if you see anything of interest on the site. Don't drink bad coffee!!!!!!!!

Hey Jon, I bought this shirt at a small store in P-town, but searched the web and found it online at http://www.threadless.com/submission/82249/Infinity_MPG. Noticed you lived in Colorado, I lived in both Denver and Boulder for about 4 years. Really liked it but glad to be back in the Northwest.

Jon, I did go to SCAA 2007 in Long Beach and since it was my first trade show, I was, well, overwhelmed by it all. I had to sort through lots of collateral in the weeks to follow. Its a great introduction to the vastness of this business as well as seeing a lot of really great people and watching the competitions.

I also did go to Coffee Fest here in Seattle (I moved here in June from AZ) and it was, imho, a subset of SCAA. I personally wouldn't travel for it, but would definitely attend if it was close to me, as it is. I think you can get something out of each show - depends on what your goal is. There should definitely be a home barista-type show with educational forums for the public. Would help both the home experience AND the coffee shop experience. Everyone might start ordering straight shots, which would be a great thing because the shops that focus on excellence would stand out.

Jon, thanks for the encouraging comments. So I take it you are a coffee enthusiast in your home as well. Would love to hear about your set-up. As for me, I have a Izzo Alex and a Mazzer Mini and use Borogove Coffee and am finally happy with the results. - kd

Oh yes, 'Cross! Building out my new frame this winter....
All my cross racing before this has been on my mt. Bike! Kinda lose that competitive advantage, but it is still wonderfully anaerobic from the gun!

I've never ventured into cyclocross myself. I use to do Mountain and Road races when I was younger but have settled into fixed-gear bikes over the years. There is just something so beautiful about a bicycle without shifters and brakes!
