Profile Information

What is your position in the coffee industry?
barista
Where are you located? ( City and Country )
portland, oregon
How many years have you been in the industry?
2 years
If you are a barista or shop, are you interested in a barista exchange with another coffee shop/barista?
yes
Tell us more about your coffee shop or barista skills.
My active connection to any coffee community has primarily been
within my skills in the visual arts. I do a large portion of advertising and design work for a local shop under the name of coffeehouse n.w.
They have been incredibly helpful with educating me in espresso, and i've had some time on a decent set up for pulling character out of hair bender, but my curiosity is beginning to lean more towards cupping. I would like to grow deeper into the industry not only as a barista, but as a visual representative for coffee as a whole.
What cities or countries are you interested in traveling to?
You can rightfully assume why id like to visit ethiopia.
But as for long term stay, I'd honestly like to see nepal, india, and the country sides of japan and france.
About Me:
i've got more imagination than i do the time to fully invest it in.
I'm an incredibly communal person, and a lot, if not all my work is done in trade rather than in money. I don't by any means know everything there is to know about coffee, but I'm learning fast and I'm having a lot of fun with it.
I see espresso similar to photography, in that the idea behind extraction is so much like letting light through the lens to create a profile that expresses many facets of an environment.
In the usage of both instruments, neither one can control the surrounding climate, and they are both completely subjective to the environment. You can have good beans or good film, but ultimately you'll have to bend to the ways of your immidiate surroundings.
I feel as though a good barista or a good photographer is really marked by their ability to just manually pull a balanced and interestingly stabile character out of what is offered to them.
I also do not believe in the best barista or the perfect shot. Sure, there are some very clear and reasonable ideals to shoot for, but at the end of the day, the shot that stands out to me the most, is the one that the barista really stretched for. Even if they were dealing with the first day since the roast, and the blend just wanted to scream bright lemon hate. When it comes down to it, every body has their own way of doing things, and thats what makes the coffee so damn interesting.
For shits sake, i do not want the same shots every day.
I do not want the same world every day,
And i especially don't want unreasonable snobery every day.
About My Company:
At the time being, my company is my self.
But I've noticed that things tend to change.
