Sigh... the above URL is amazing if you're as much of a dork as I am; basically, it's a compendium of scientists from various diverse fields who focus on coffee! You can look up the abstracts from their bi-annual conferences, and order the full-text articles as well. Discovering this was as good as kissing any pretense of a real life goodbye!

Melissa... wonder if you tried the percolator? Frankly, I remember having had some really enjoyable coffee from a percolator. That's all we had in the 60's. For Brasilian cafe' each morning, we brew tropeiro style, which is basically nothing more exotic than dumping the grounds into water brought to temperature, adding sugar, stiring and steeping for a moment, and then filtering through a cotton sock filter into a serving device; we use a small thermos/vac-pot. The entire nation of Brasil does it that way to this day. Hope the percolator provides some interesting and tastey brew!
