I am more technically oriented in that I know a ton of theory, engineering, and science but I know that someone that does a job 4-8 hours per day will be able to beat me on speed, technique, latte-art, etc. any time.

Biography: David Bear Dallis, President, Dallis Bros. Inc.

David Bear Dallis is President of Dallis Bros. Inc., a third generation family coffee roasting, importing, and wholesale company. Based in Ozone Park, Queens, New York, Dallis Bros. Inc. was founded in 1913 by Abe and Morris Dallis, two immigrant brothers from Russia who sold their freshly roasted coffee house-to-house from a horse drawn wagon. Today, the third generation Dallis family proudly brings to you the same fine quality coffee for restaurants, gourmet specialty stores, and espresso bars.

Mr. Dallis was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the National Coffee Association and begins his two year term at this year’s Convention in Boca Raton. He is very excited to be elected to this position after spending many year’s in service to the NCA on various Task Forces, Long Range Planning workshops, and serving as chair of the Education and Training committee.

Mr. Dallis is past President of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and has served as Vice President and Treasurer of SCAA and has been an active member of the association's Board of Directors since 1989. Mr. Dallis has lectured on numerous occasions before the public and the coffee trade. Presentations include formal coffee cuppings for industry colleagues.

In 2003, Mr. Dallis was honored with the Specialty Coffee Association’s “Outstanding Contribution to the Association” Award.

Mr. Dallis has toured many of the world's leading coffee producing regions including Brazil, Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi (Celebes), Puerto Rico, Nicaragua Costa Rica, Guatemala, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Tanzania. Moreover, he has visited coffee retailers, roasting facilities and decaffeination plants in Italy, Switzerland, England, Canada, and United States.
Prior to joining Dallis Bros., Mr. Dallis served in various manufacturing positions with General Electric for five years and is a graduate of G.E.'s Manufacturing Management Program. He received an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute after receiving a BSEE from Columbia University. Mr. Dallis and his company have been featured in The New York Newsday, The New York Daily News, The New York Times, Gourmet Retailer, Coffee & Tea Trade Journal, and The Wine Spectator.

• All phases of manufacturing, production and distribution for a $7MM, nearly 100 year old coffee roasting business.
• Factory expansion, layout, material handling, and engineering and budgeting.
• Consistent improvements in quality and productivity while maintaining a very safe working environment.
• Started and managed green coffee sales market segment that grew to be nearly 30% of company’s volume.
• Ran the Coffee Conference Center’s monthly training programs an innovative program designed to bring new customers into the coffee business.
