I have tried this method using the screen pictured - bought it after reading the post on "coffeed". In my opinion, you lose the quality of the siphon pot. It becomes more like a French press in body and flavor - not that that's a bad thing as far as the coffee enjoyment is concerned, but it does not produce the lighter bodied more flavorful brew of a siphon. The cloth filter used in a siphon captures oils that add body but diminishes the delicate flavors of the coffee. And, the brew was not a clean as when using a cloth filter, again more like a French press. Other than cleanup, I see no advantage of using the metal filter and would prefer to use a either a French press, or a cloth filter with the siphon.
