I have no problem with serving drinks in 16oz cups - my shop does it all day long...
I suppose it wouldn't be quite as good as a TATTOO of a drink, but maybe that's just me.
interesting that you bring that up. i've always been partial to smaller sized drinks and wish our 16 oz was the largest size. i guess it's the difference between wanting to taste the right componants in a drink in the right ratios and then just wanting something to sip on for a half hour in which is probably why 16 oz is our most popular size.
Sucks.
not entirely a huge fan, but i can't complain because i've been known to have a 16oz drink every now and then. of course, i'm also putting about 4 (or more) shots in it. honestly, i'd rather keep to the smaller sizes. it just tastes better.
The thing you'll notice with coffee is that 1 plus 1 does not always equal 2. Coffee is so complicated that using it in recipes isn't always simple math. You may need to come up with a more complex equation to get the formula correct. Maybe taking the combined gram weight of your espresso shots into account when creating a larger latte will have a more beneficial effect on the drink than just thinking in terms of total number of shots.

Thoughts?
Since I caught the coffee bug many years ago. Drinks I consume have become smaller with time, right now the largest coffee I consume is the drip that I make for myself at home. if I go out The largest drink I order is a 8oz latte or cap. A majority of the time I stick with a espresso or a macchiato.
Here is to the 12oz or less.
Eli

PS
Jonathan I will include a Pic of my Tat just as soon as I find one.
the point of coffee is to taste and enjoy the flavors that the espresso provides. even is the milk is steamed to perfection. To much milk over powers the espresso. Adding to Zach's theory espresso is a inexact science that we all strive to perfect.
When where all working isn't easier to consume something small and quick that you know will taste good.

i personally dont go past 12oz.
I think a point worth making follows. As coffee lovers, it's easy for many of us to imagine drinking rostrettos and straight espresso. Or, many of us drink short caps and small lattes. Our customers, however, don't always share our passion for these complex beverages. So, we try to accomodate our customers' needs [important distinction from our own] by providing larger drinks. However, it is possible to try to compact some of that flavor we so adore into these largers drinks.
We personally never went over 12oz as well, except for cold drinks...the taste just isn't the same.
I personally think that Starbucks is responsible for people requesting "vente" drinks and what not. originally the appropriate sizes were 8 10 and 12 ounces. In a lot of credible cafes stick to that rule but in drive thru coffee stands ( like the ones ive worked at ) 20 and 16 ounce drinks are the popular sizes. they're made for people on the go who want a sugary caffeine high and not the people who truly appreciate the flavor of a great espresso.
