I am not sure if anyone is siphon brewing, but I have come up with a solution to the dirty taste the cloth filters leave... check out the discussion on siphon brewing if anyone is interested...

There is a lot of discussion going on AZcoffee, but I think Chris is trying to keep that a relatively one-way mode of communication. It is a really great site and he stops by Press on a regular basis. His articles are interesting and I try to throw my two cents in (in the comment section) when necessary. Someone actually posted a comment about this group on Chris's website.(Kind of cross-marketing each other.)

This group was started mostly to try to help everyone keep their fingers on the pulse and hear about upcoming events and goings on. As I said before, stronger independents = a stronger industry. I just got the proofs of the poster for the October event btw. (They look rad. Cowboy themed. nuff said.)

I dunno who 'their people' are yet, I just heard about it. The BGA's forum used to be a great way to get word out, locally and nationally, but now it's just another MySpace lookin' shill for your dues. There's been a lot of rumours that they'd be comparable to the SCAE's barista program, but I haven't seen it yet. OTOH, the last two WBC's have come from a small geographical area...
Also, there is already an AZ based coffee web-site, http://www.arizona-coffee.com, and there is a bit of pro discussion happening there on their forum. Shop owners and customers alike are comparing baristi and shops, and there is a burgeoning latte art intramural program (informally) brewing there.
Recently, their fora have been a reverberant empty room. It would be a great place for local baristi to have a chat and keep up with what's happening in AZ, and we'd have the place pretty much to ourselves. If it did get 'crowded', Chris'd be happy to set aside a baristi thread or area, I'm betting.

Are any of their people on BE? I'm hoping this group can become a great way to communicate with the whole community. Stronger independent shops mean a stronger industry, especially here in AZ. Keep me posted.

Avenue Coffee is opening here (today?) and have suggested that they are going to 'up the game' in Tucson. I can think of nothing more to support that statement than to support these kinds of competitions. Not only for the away games, but perhaps (with a three-group Synesso!) the home games as well. Let's see if they're ready to do something in the midst of all it takes to get your shop off the starter's blocks. I'd bet that they're a bit distracted at the moment, but in a month or two they may be able to figure out where the are, and what they're willing to contribute.

Exciting news! October 10th Press Coffee is holding the first EVER City V City competition! Get the word out! We are still courting sponsors so If you know of anyone who would like to donate milk or 'spro, let me know! Everyone is welcome to compete. The primary reason we are putting this on is to get Arizona ready for the Southwestern Regional Barista Competition and to build a stronger coffee community throughout AZ. Ideas? Questions? Comments? This is an open forum your ideas are welcome!

Lets push AZ into the national spotlight!

Awesome! I am moving to the Sedona area Sept. 1st. I'm excited there is already a growing group of enthusiasts... Looking forward to meeting you all!
