The Canadian government has finally brought in Organic regulations! Good news bad news sorta thing!
I am a 100% certified Organic coffee roaster. To maintain my certification I need to go to the certifier of origin and get an attestation from them that they meet Canadian Standards! Even though I have the certifications that they meet US & EU standards.
This is proving to be a difficult task.
The kicker is:
1)Canada is concerned that the coffee is not grown by hydroponics (you can start laughing now! leave it to the bureaucrats)
2)That Chilean(Sodium) nitrate is not used.
My question is does anybody know anything about the use of Chilean(Sodium) nitrate in coffee production/ Is it even used? where?
These two points is all that I need to prove, & as long as they carry a USDA certification I am good to go.
I am a strong believer in Organics & it is where my niche market is, if I cannot get confirmation from origin my certification status is at risk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
