I am finding myself deep cleaning more and more plexi-glass bulk coffee bins and really dirty hoppers. For the really bad jobs I use a degreaser-but not in the cafe of course and believe me it is a chore to remove all of the oils and then all of the cleaner.
I would love to do a less toxic recipe and sometimes I have to clean on site with a customer which really limits the tools I can use. Any suggestions?

Cafiza on a sponge for me/us.

Same here it works wonders, though I think the real trick is regular cleaning.

joe glo or whatever equivalent you may use and hot water is good.
but if you take your beans out of your hopper every night and wipe it down with a dry towel it prevents alot of build up and you should not have to clean them as often.
This wouldn't be a good idea in a store. If I have a really bad hopper (caked on oil) and I don't have time to soak it overnight, I'll use rubbing alcohol. I recommend taking it outside of coarse and then rinsing it thoroughly.
Those little steam cleaners work wonders. I've also ran the plastic hopper in the dishwasher too. No funky tastes or cracks.....yet
thank you all for your comments, the steamer machine is a fantastic idea. My problem is it has to be quick and efficient and sometimes the customer does not always have a huge sink or the residue is so thick that it takes a long time. It is of course important to teach preventative maintenance and I am a big fan of that unfortunately turnover and bad habits take time to nurture. What kind of steamer do you have.

I never would of thought of a steamer machine and that really is a great idea! Thank you very much.
