Has any one else been to Mercury Coffee in Detroit? I checked it out last night and being a Northwest coffee kind of geek, I was wondering what others thought? They are pulling Intelli blackcat and doing S.O. pour overs of some other Intelli coffees. I am generally not a huge fan of Blackcat and last night experienced one of the better shots of BC that I have had though it was a bit strange to have it served in an 8oz latte cup as a ristretto. I was told it opened up the flavor. I always thought that spro, hates oxygen and losing heat quickly. I think this is a big step forward for the Detroit Metro area to finally have a "true" coffee shop and I hope over time they succeed. I really love the space they have, looking out at the old Detroit rail station. Anyways care to hear what others are thinking.

Hey Troy, I stopped in there the day of their soft opening and had a really great experience. I was made a very tasty flat white with a very pretty hard heart garnishing the top. I was really excited by the Austrailian geared espresso drink menu as well as the "slow coffee" menu. I second your comment on the space, not many places will pull off a purple floor. They rocked it. The baristas were really cool as well and I had some sweet coffee discussion with them. Keep em coming Michigan, keep em coming.
I also stopped in around the opening and got a flat white, to be honest i was very impressed with the knowledge of the baristas. Cool atmosphere, and quality coffee.. that's something new for downtown area Detroit... i hope they can make it in the shadow of the dying/ already dead city...
I went there a month or so ago and it was great. I got a delicious ristretto shot, a traditional capp, and i got me a tasty pour over that was pretty top notch. I loved the space and the baristas were very friendly. It's great seeing MI shops opening, where the baristas/owners really care about the product. We have Mercury that have been around for about 3 months or so, Madcap which just opened this last weekend, and comet coffee which will hopefully be opening really soon! Big ups MI!
Yeah I went there a couple months ago. It's definitely a huge step above any of the shops in Detroit itself. The vibe is really fun and the drinks are pretty quality. We'll see if Detroit can appreciate it... It certainly has the aesthetic qualities that seem to win shops "approval" in the local rags around here... and for once it has enough bang in the cup to keep me interested. They hadn't finished the basement completely when I went but it looked like it was going to be pretty cool when it was finished. I've been meaning to go back for a while. My fiance doesn't really drink coffee, and is usually dragged to new shops against her will, but this one has a great food menu to, and an atmosphere I think anyone would enjoy!

Also the staff is REALLY cool

I wish them a long and successful life!
