Any recommendations on a local roaster I should check out when I travel to Santa Fe/Taos/Albuquerque later this month?

ABQ has a little shop in Corrales called Oasis.  They sell Corrales Coffee Roasters coffee.  I stumbled in there once upon a time, and the roaster happened to be there.

Funny story.  He was a home-roaster.  We had crossed paths in the home-roasting world before, we discovered after a little conversation.  His brother opened Oasis to sell his coffee (at least, that's what he told me). His coffee was good.  We ended up trading some coffee.. a bag of mine for a bag of his (I happened to have an extra with me).

Assuming things haven't changed since then (it's been about a year and a half), stick with the drip and you shouldn't be too disappointed.

I've tried Satellite.  I asked for a french press (which is on the menu).  I also asked what coffees they had available.  They kept giving me an odd look, and they asked (in an assuming way.. neither negatively) if I was a Starbucks customer.  Basically, a good place to waste time.. a bad place for a cup of coffee.

In Taos there used to be a little shop called World Cup.  It's not a local roaster (there are plenty of those in NM, and almost none are any good), but it's the best thing going in Taos.  The espresso wasn't horribly offensive.  It also wasn't particularly good.  That having been said, it was an enjoyable experience that fit well considering the chilly weather and pedestrianism.  (the coffee is "Italian".. from Italy!)

Santa Fe.. well.. I never did find anything worthwhile in Santa Fe.  That's not to say that it doesn't exist, just that I never found it if it does.

That having been said, we (my wife and I) didn't much care for Santa Fe, but we love Taos and ABQ. (culture-wise)  Have fun!

Thanks for the advice Jasons (!) ... I'm surprised that in a foodie town like Santa Fe, coffee has been forgotten. Too bad.

Nice tip on World Cup in Taos but with a limited amount of time I don't think I'm going to seek out a place that "wasn't horribly offensive".

So with good local coffee tough to find I might be waking up with something a little more reliable ... like a margarita.

Will try some ABQ coffee tomorrow but so far here's my findings:
SANTA FE: disappointed by many but these two stand out:
-Holy Spirit Espresso. Uses Cafe d'Arte, Seattle and has been for 20 years since Bill, the lively owner/operator moved from there. Tough to find, not exactly catering to the average tourist crowd - neat place!
-Collected Works Books & Cafe (Aroma Coffee, Santa Fe).
TAOS: didn't get to try many but was very impressed with
-World Cup (organic Nicaraguan roasted in California).
