I would welcome any thoughts on these machines. I have been thinking of the La Marzocco GS/3, I currently have a Nuova Simonelli Muscia and feel the GS/3 will give better control with tempature, preinfusion, etc.

However, there are many other machines such as the Alex Duetto II. My intention for getting one of these is I am a home enthusiast and want to experiment and get the best taste and quality I can out of the espresso I try. Roasting will be the next step, so having total control on flavor is important. Your input is greatly valued and thanks in advance for any feedback.

@Keith - good thought, Musica is a great little machine. Hopefully, the others are a bit more quite as the musica pump is fairly loud and the preinfusion doesn't have the best control as I think you may be able to get with the others, as with the gs/3. Great info on the grinder, will check those out as well, thank you!

Haven't gotten hands on the newest Vibiemme yet, but should have it in stock soon and I will get an idea a pump noise compared to the Alex Duetto.  The Alex (both the HX and Duetto) can have some rattles, usually from the warming tray on top.  For the top tray, this is usually because of the rubber bumpers it rests on need adjusting or a saucer is touching the side. Other than that, it is a relatively quiet machine compared to a vibratory pump machine.  If noise is a huge concern, best of luck finding a silent grinder, lol.

Both of those machines are great.  The GS/3 has always been regarded as the holy grail of home espresso machines.  You'll be happy with either machine.

You'll definitely have more control with the GS/3.  It gives you programmable pre-infusion and in comparison to the Duetto II's PID controls (with increments of 1 F) the GS/3's PID controls down to .1 F.

Cheers!

I think you were referring to the gs3(?). If so, the MP model uses the steam boiler pressure for p/i(when using the tank). I'm not certain how the volumetric model works.

@ Matt - Not that it makes much difference, but the GS/3 controls temp in .3* F increments.

As I understand it, if you run tank configuration there is no line pressure and therefore no user-controlled pre-infusion. Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of going with a manual-preinfusion machine?

Sorry, you're right, I double checked and the temp increments are ±0.3° F.

I was referring to the volumetric model when referencing the programmable pre-infusion.

Cheers,

Wanted to thank everyone who responded!! This has been the best experience in my first posting and have gained an unbelievable amount of knowledge and advise. I now have other machines to look at and do some more comparison. Haven't made a decision yet but closer than I was at the beginning..... Thank you!!
