I just started working with my new machine, the la cimbali M22. I'm having a few issues that I'm sure is probably me but want to rule out other things I may be overlooking. I'm very new to the industry.......I grind my espresso, load the porta filter......my shots start in approx 5 seconds......look great then start dripping after a few seconds. I've tried making my grind coarser.....tamping less, etc. Any suggestions? Also, during backflushing, water leaks all over the countertop.....the place where I purchased it from said its just the tubes behind the front panel not hitting the drip tray. Any suggestions would be most helpful....its getting a little frustrating. :-) Thanks

What kind of baskets are you using? Doubles or triples?

If it's dripping too slow that means that water isn't getting through the puck fast enough.

What color is the espresso when it starts? and how fast does it take to turn a Blonde color?

Oh and another thing...how old is the spro you're using? One time I had a lot of trouble pulling De-caf shots. It would come out slow like you described no matter the grind. Turned out the spro was really old. All the oils had essentially evaporated out of the bean leaving nothing to really extract.

As for the drip tray, That happens to my stores machine if I try to back flush an excessive amount. The drain hole isn't big enough so when mass water goes down it goes everywhere.
Using double baskets......water not getting through the puck fast enough? Is that something that the espresso tech can adjust?

if the water isn't getting through the esspresso fast enough it usually means the grind is way too fine.
But this doesnt sound like the case.

Check the age of your espresso.
First let your machine install and check by qualified technician, also let the experience barista handle and calibrated the grind to espresso machine, check also the bioler and water pressure from gauge and how it work, beacause there's alot of factor before you will see what really the problem..and don't get frustrated this will test you for being a coffee lover..hehehe,hope it will help..TC

on the issue with the water after back flushing your having. does your drip tray have holes that correspond with how many groups you have? if so your drip tray maybe backwards make sure the holes are in the back some groups drain down with out tubing in to the tray, not sure how cimbaili's are never seen one but from what your saying and what the person you talked to is saying im guessing they look like a astoria or cma brew valve which just drian in to the drip tray after the valve is closed during back flush some machines that have a mechanical actuated valve normally single groups where the group and valve are exposed you can see is during a back flush
with i could think of the names of a machine like this but i normally don't work on single groups so im bad with names of'em
