Some friends of mine will give me a green bean right from his farm, but I have no idea how to do home roasting. Is there any idea to recognize is it a good quality green bean or not? Or I have to roast it first?

While visual inspection can give an idea if greens are really bad (defects etc.), only roasting and cupping can determine it's actual quality. Sweet Maria's is great resource for home roasting.
Easy, plug it in the oven at 430 degrees for about 20-25 minutes, until it reches the desired roast color. Shuffle every few minutes. May get messy/smoky...be reay, have fun.

BTW, if you research this, you will get lost in details, ignore it. This should be only as complex as you wish it to be. Nothing wrong with doing this the easy way as a hobby.
