Hello fellow roasters,

I want to deep clean my Joper 5kg roasting drum. I find that lately the taste of the coffee is a little on the charred side, even the roast is fairly light (just entering the 2nd pops).

I took out the front plate and that's easy to clean. But the problem lies with the whole drum and paddle blades. Any suggestion on how to clean this completely? This will be highly appreciated.

After cleaning, I will take out the airflow damper and install a 3phase inverter to control fan speed. Is this a good idea?

Every comment is appreciated.

Best regards,

Suksit.

Made my laugh! And really realize how relative the terms light or dark are. Just touching 2nd crack is the darkest offering I roast for the shelf and only two offerings out of 10+ at that.

Can't help you on cleaning the internal drum, never had the need.

Variable fan airflow, wouldn't live without it! Especially useful slowing the final develop stage on barely out of 1st or not even out of 1st my light roasts.

I think you are better off leaving your drum alone.  Clean the rest of the roaster for sure and look into that fan speed control.  If you are getting charred tasting coffee airflow would be one of my first places to look.

If you really are intent on scraping your drum clean you might want to try a compressed air needle scaler, but I would be concerned that you would ruin your drum that way.
