One of the challenges I have been facing is finding furniture for my shop that reflects my taste and the vibe I want my shop to have. I am very drawn to the modernist/art deco/postmodern styles seen in the 1920's to 1950's. I like clean lines, geometric designs, etc. For instance, I am crazy about Le Corbusier chairs and love seats, and really like the Barcelona chair. However, finding affordable reproductions of these designs is difficult. The popular trend in coffee shops has been the warm, "Tuscany", woodsy look, with lots of browns, oranges, greens, etc. I am going for a "cool, calm look"--more euro club with a dash of retro.

Where do your shops find club chairs, booths, etc? It seems to me with the success rate of new restaurants and clubs being what it is, there should be warehouses full of stored used club furniture waiting for another shop to open. I realize that new furniture has a lot going for it, but it isn't always the "green" way to go. Of course, in our area, finding salvaged furniture is next to impossible.

Paul-

I don't know where you're located but in Baltimore we have places like Second Chance and Housewerks that specialize in architectural salvage and period furniture. I suggest seeking out similar places in your area and they should be able to direct you towards suitable firms dealing in the product you seek.

One thing about having good taste is that it's, well, expensive.
