I stumbled across an ad for a used Faema Compact Smart 2 at a very good rate. This would be for my own personal use at home. What questions should I ask before purchasing it. I'm planning on asking what the backflush schedule was like, when were the gaskets last changed, how long was it used in a commercial environment, and when it was last serviced, but after that I don't know what else I should look for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The worst thing I fine when people buy a use machine is that they don't see it work. The first thing you want to do is pull a shot and listen. Make sure the pump sounds smooth and that it is producing 9 bars of pressure. The pump and motor can cost you over $500 and is pretty important. Make sure the shot volumes are consistent and that you can program them. Check for leaks! If it all looks good take it to your nearest service provider and have them flush the boiler and perform a full PM (preventative maintenance) on it. This will help ensure that your investment will last a long time.

I would also check and make sure you have enough power at home to run it.

Good luck!
