anyone ever do a self insulation on a boiler if so what did you use. not sure if anyone else has heard of this but its called aerogel (made by/for Nasa??) but seems like it would save lots of power and prevent temp flux as well.

BUMP...

I'd been wondering about a project like this too. Anyone? Why is this not done at the factory? Too difficult due to all of the different fittings, etc?

The material I'd use if I were to try this is the one that they use on the outside of the SS dishwasher tubs... can't remember what it is called, but it will come to me. It is a rigid black board material that I think shrinks and conforms to the substrate as you heat it. Will look into it and post back.
The stuff I was thinking of was bitumen.... the heat-flexible aspect makes it totally inappropriate for this application. As does the combustibility factor. Hmmm.... maybe another material would be better.
