Arguably the most famous cafe in Italy...perhaps even Europe. The Cafe has sat on one side of Venice's magnificent Piazza San Marco for 300 years. A list of the "who's - who" of Venitian society have enjoyed coffee there. Today an espresso will set you back a bit, especially in summer and if the "bands playing" outside. However, it is a remarkable venue for sure- and a rare chance to take in some cafe history. I would say it perhaps is not 100% kid friendly, but that is because my 1 year old decided to vomit while we were there... staff were good, patrons a little miffed. I would also say I was not 100% convinced about the quality of my espresso, although that may just be a cheeky antipodean observation

both, espresso and cappuccino are bad quality. venice is some 4h of driving from my home and again, sadly, quality is bad.
but the story, fame, history...is unique...
are you able to drink espesso at the bar? italian law controls the price of espresso drunk standing at a bar and I think is about 2euro?
I wouldn't be surprised if the espresso is very 'traditional'! but the machine they use is beautiful!
Indeed I must say that we decided to take the more expensive option of sitting down in one of the fabulous drawing rooms- the room of artistes I think. I did hear that actually at the bar it is ony E1.20. The machine, if I am not wrong, is an Elektra. As I was with a group of CMA Astoria guys, they were not quite as complimentary about the machine as they may have been ;p
espresso and cappuccino price are under low control, but it also depends on where you are, hotel, caffe etc...it can be from 1€ up to 2€ for espresso, 1.2€ for cappuccino and up... as for electra, its beatifull...does gives back in quality as in beauty?
